Risk & Control Director – Motor Finance Location: Cardiff with regular travel to London (Hybrid working) Aldermore Group is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Risk & Control Director to lead and strengthen the first line risk and control framework within our Motor Finance business. This is a pivotal leadership position that sits within both the Motor Finance senior leadership team and the wider Aldermore Group leadership community. As the Risk & Control Director, you will take ownership of the financial and non-financial risk profile for the Motor Finance division, ensuring alignment with the Group’s Risk Appetite, Frameworks, and Policies. Operating in the First Line of Defence, you will be instrumental in embedding a robust risk culture and driving proactive risk management across the business. This role is highly visible and collaborative, engaging with a diverse range of stakeholders including the FCA, Board members, Group Executives, the Chief Risk Officer, the Second Line of Defence, FirstRand, investors, credit rating agencies, and more. This is a Certified Role under the FCA’s Senior Managers & Certification Regime (SM&CR), reflecting the critical nature of the position in ensuring effective governance and risk oversight. Our Opportunity: Oversight: Review and challenge of 1LOD risk management & control to ensure risk is managed within the Group’s stated risk appetite, risk management frameworks and policies as well as the relevant regulations (e.g. CONC and DISP) and that risk management conforms to industry best practice. Strategic partner: Act as a strategic business partner to senior leaders in Motor Finance to effectively influence business behaviours and risk culture, helping Motor to grow safely and execute on its change agenda. Identify emerging risks and support the business to develop strategies to quantify, manage, and mitigate these. Oversight of incident management, root cause analysis and action plans. Leadership & Resilience: Lead, manage, develop and coach an established team of Risk & Control professionals to oversee risk management and deliver expertise to the rest of the Group. Risk Appetite: Support the 2LOD Risk Function to ensure that appropriate Financial & Non-Financial risk limits are set across the Motor business line to ensure that key risk metrics remains within the Board approved Risk Appetite constraints. Control: Implement and fully embed the Risk and Control self-assessment (“RCSA”) across the Motor Finance business, ensuring these remain fit for purpose as the business line implements it’s change agenda. Ensure control frameworks are risk appropriate and fit for purpose for Motor’s specific risk profile and tailored for the general market and regulations in which the business operates (such as Consumer Duty), as well as ensuring compliance with all Consumer Credit Act (CCA) requirements. Insight and Analysis: Produce high quality insights into the quality, performance and concentration of the Motor Financial & Non-Financial Risk profile. Culture: Promote a culture of risk awareness across the business, encouraging strong collaborative working relationships with Audit and 2LOD Risk, supporting the management team with the embedding of risk and control governance. Stakeholder management: Engaging with external stakeholders such as regulators, credit rating and reference agencies on Motor Finance Risk Profile and strategy. Support management with the on-going review, development and embedding of the firm’s risk policies, providing advice as required. Effective on-boarding, oversight and in-life monitoring of third part relationships. Governance: Member of the Motor SLT, the Motor Financial and Non-Financial Risk Forums and the Group Non-Financial Risk Forum. External environment: Maintain effective scanning of the external regulatory risk and legal environment underpinning the consumer section to ensure trends are understood and learnings identified for the business. Leading on regulatory change transformation in response to the external market About You: Strong understanding and experience of the UK Consumer Credit sector, including experience of products captured under the Consumer Credit Act (CCA). Balanced understanding of Financial and Non-Financial Risk. An understanding of UK regulators’ and their expectations, with a focus on customer conduct, product management and product lifecycles. Ideally, this will include an appreciation of customer vulnerability and application of customer fair value principles. Previous experience of regulator engagement (ideally with the FCA and/or PRA) is preferred. Strong communicator with the ability to build and manage internal and external relationships across a wide stakeholder community, including ability to work effectively within the 3LoD and able to present well at a Senior Management and Board level and build fit for purpose governance pathways. Experience in implementing proportionate control frameworks that are balanced and fit for purpose for Motor’s specific risk profile and tailored for the general market and regulations in which the business operates (such as Consumer Duty). Experienced in writing policies and procedures that are easy to understand and follow, aligned to Group Policies. Experience in incident and operational risk event management, root cause analysis and reporting.
