CRC.scot is seeking a motivated and experienced Lead Trail & Path Designer to help grow and deliver our portfolio of mountain bike (MTB) trails and active travel infrastructure projects across Scotland.
This is a key role focused on developing opportunities into deliverable projects, working from early concept through to construction.
About the Role
You will take the lead in identifying, promoting, and developing MTB trail and path design and/or construction opportunities.
You’ll work within CRC.scot’s simple, proven phased approach to projects:
* Feasibility
* Detailed Design
* Construction
You’ll also draw on our extensive back catalogue of projects and established methodologies, while collaborating with a trusted network of specialist consultants where needed.
Key Responsibilities
* Identify and develop new MTB trail and path opportunities across Scotland
* Build and maintain relationships with landowners, public bodies, and partners
* Lead projects through feasibility, design, and support the construction phases
* Prepare proposals, scopes, and supporting documentation to secure work
* Coordinate with external consultants on specialist inputs (e.g. ecology, engineering, planning)
* Ensure projects are practical, deliverable, and aligned with best practice
About You
You’ll be someone who can bridge vision and delivery — spotting opportunities and turning them into real projects on the ground.
You might come from a background in:
* Trail design (MTB or multi-use)
* Landscape architecture
* Civil engineering or rural infrastructure
* Outdoor recreation development
Essential qualities:
* Strong understanding of MTB trail and path development and user needs
* Ability to develop projects from concept through to delivery
* Commercial awareness and confidence in winning work
* Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
* Self-directed and comfortable working in a flexible, small-team environment
Desirable:
* Proven experience in trail/path design and/or construction
* Experience working in/with Scotland’s public, private, or third sectors
* Knowledge of funding mechanisms and project development pathways
* Network within the trails / outdoor recreation sector
