Job Description:
Job title: Principal Control & Instrumentation Engineer
Location options: Barrow-in-Furness, Filton, or Manchester (minimum 2 days on-site per fortnight). We offer hybrid and flexible working arrangements—please discuss options with your recruiter.
Key responsibilities:
* Develop a functional design for the Vehicle Control solution for SSNA.
* Coordinate with stakeholders to oversee the delivery of the vehicle control solution and strategy.
* Support assurance activities in collaboration with the Office of the Chief Engineer.
* Work with the engineering manager to deliver the vehicle control system, using agile tools.
* Ensure timely delivery of the engineering plan.
* Guide the engineering team on methods and processes.
* Develop technical solutions with the team, fostering their growth.
* Engage with legacy stakeholders to develop solutions from baseline designs.
Required skills and experience:
* Experience in designing large-scale C&I systems, meeting various standards.
* Knowledge of managing non-functional requirements like EMC and shock compliance.
* Proficiency in authoring/reviewing design documents.
* Degree or equivalent in Engineering, Physics, Maths, or Science.
* Understanding of control system architecture and protocols (e.g., RS-485, PROFIBUS).
* Experience with IEC 61508 or similar functional safety standards.
* Experience with manoeuvring systems across industries.
