An opportunity to be a member of Weldmar Hospicecare's established medical team, as a Specialty Doctor in Palliative Medicine, at our Inpatient Unit. You'll be joining our friendly multi-disciplinary team that aims to make a difference every day for local adults with a life limiting illness.
With the stunning Jurassic Coast, incredible local scenery, picturesque villages and vibrant local towns, Dorset really is an incredible place to live and work. You'll be based in the beautiful surroundings of our Inpatient Unit, and as required work in an outpatient or community settings. You will have full GMC registration with a license to practice and ideally will have completed four years full-time postgraduate training (or equivalent gained on a part time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be in relevant specialty training. Salary will be according to experience and qualifications. An enhanced plus barred list DBS check is required. Job Details
Job Title: Specialty Doctor
Location: Inpatient Unit, Dorchester
Hours of work: Part-time (2 days a week; 4 PAs plus participation in the on‑call rota)
Contract: Permanent
Pay: NHS Specialty Doctor pay scale (actual starting salary dependent on experience)
On‑call: 1:5 rota in support of hospice and community teams
Responsibilities
* Provide continuity of medical support and care in Weldmar Hospicecare's Inpatient Unit, with occasional outpatients or domiciliary visits as required.
* Work as part of the IPU MDT and participate in handovers and meetings; provide telephone advice to Palliative Care Nurse Specialists, GPs, and hospital teams as appropriate.
* Admit and manage new patients; oversee the care of existing patients; support community visits and outpatient consultations as requested.
* Participate in professional activities including clinical audit, training, and quality assessment; contribute to teaching for medical students and GPVTS doctors
* Maintain appropriate computer skills (SystemOne) and engage in CPD and annual appraisal in line with GMC/Trust requirements
* Cover for other medical staff during holidays and training; participate in on-call rota
* Attend and contribute to governance activities and education programs
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Full registration with the General Medical Council
* Completed at least four years of full-time postgraduate training (or equivalent) with at least two years in a relevant specialty; or equivalent experience/competencies
Desirable
* Palliative care qualification
* Experience in clinical audit; excellent communication skills; commitment to multidisciplinary teamwork; basic computer literacy
Essential Other Requirements
* Enhanced DBS check (plus barred list) and ability to meet the charity's values and ethos
* Commitment to equality, diversity, and best practice in infection prevention and safety
* Willingness to travel with a driving licence as required
Salary and Benefits
Salary: Actual starting salary dependent on experience and qualifications, in line with NHS Specialty Doctor pay scales (2021 contract).
Pension: NHS pension participation or Weldmar's workplace pension scheme after 3 months; auto-enrollment for eligible staff
Hours: Sessions to be worked in agreement with the Lead Consultant
Annual Leave: 6 weeks per annum plus Bank Holidays (pro rata)
Medical indemnity: Post holder to maintain own medical indemnity insurance
Domiciliary Visits: Mileage paid where applicable; no fee for visits
Private Practice: Private practice allowed outside normal hours with notification
Notice: Three months by either party
