I’m working with a respected and specialist law firm in Preston who are looking to add a talented Motor Defence Solicitor or Paralegal to their growing team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who’s confident handling their own technically complex caseload and is passionate about providing outstanding client service in the field of motoring law.
The firm has built an excellent reputation for defending clients facing a wide range of motoring offences — from summary matters through to either-way and indictable cases. They offer a supportive and professional environment where your technical skills will be valued and developed.
The Role
As a key member of the motor defence team, you’ll be responsible for running your own caseload of motor offence matters. You’ll work directly with clients, providing comprehensive legal advice and representation from start to finish.
Typical duties will include:
Handling your own caseload defending motoring offences, including indictable, either-way, and summary offences.
Reviewing evidence and advising clients on pleas, procedural and evidential issues, costs, and potential penalties.
Taking detailed witness and mitigation statements.
Instructing and liaising with experts and Counsel throughout proceedings.
Advising new enquiry callers on sentence, strategy, and pricing, and converting those into active cases.
Keeping up to date with developments in motoring law and maintaining a strong technical knowledge base.
Taking part in the out-of-hours enquiry rota (shared basis, currently up to two evenings per week between 5pm–7pm).
About You
To be considered, you’ll need to demonstrate:
Qualification as a Solicitor, Chartered Legal Executive, or substantial experience as a Paralegal in motor defence.
A Law Degree (2:2 or above), CiLEX, or equivalent qualification.
Solid experience handling motoring law cases including Exceptional Hardship, Special Reason Arguments, Not Guilty Pleas, and Pleas in Mitigation.
Knowledge of the Criminal Justice System and experience representing clients in the Magistrates’ Court.
Strong client care skills with the ability to communicate effectively and sensitively.
High levels of accuracy, organisation, and attention to detail.
A proactive and problem-solving approach.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Case Management Systems.
Full UK driving licence is essential.
What’s on Offer

Alongside a competitive salary (negotiable depending on experience), you’ll enjoy a 35-hour working week, free parking, staff discounts, a company pension, discretionary bonus scheme, and casual dress on Fridays.
You’ll be part of a friendly, supportive team with genuine opportunities for progression and professional growth.
