The Post
We seek an experienced Service Manager - Corporate Governance to provide strategic direction, leadership, and management of our corporate governance functions.
You will ensure that PHS maintains high-quality corporate governance and assurance arrangements, supporting the PHS Board and Committees, and facilitating effective decision-making and reporting processes.
Responsibilities include developing, implementing, and monitoring the organisation’s corporate governance system in line with the Blueprint for Good Governance, overseeing Board and subcommittee meetings, and managing the Committee Management System for effective records management.
As Standards Officer, you will ensure compliance with regulatory and statutory requirements, advise board members on their responsibilities, and lead board development initiatives, including training and development.
This influential role involves providing expert advice to the Board Chair, members, the executive team, stakeholders, and staff to ensure robust governance practices.
The Candidate
You should be a highly skilled graduate (or equivalent) with experience in a relevant specialist area within a large organisation, preferably in a corporate governance leadership role.
You will possess well-established knowledge of corporate governance practices, Scottish Government NHS Scotland policies, regulations, and legislation relevant to the public sector.
Experience in stakeholder engagement, partnership working, and relationship management is essential. You should demonstrate senior management experience, negotiation and influence skills, and the ability to lead and develop teams effectively.
Excellent communication skills are required to operate at board level and provide strategic and operational guidance to the executive team and Board.
Location
The role is based in Gyle Square, Edinburgh, or at our temporary offices at Central Quay, Glasgow. We currently operate a hybrid working model, with time spent in offices and from home. Please note the relocation of our Glasgow office to Bothwell Street by mid-2025.
Working Pattern
Monday to Friday, 37 hours per week. PHS offers flexible working arrangements and may require occasional work outside standard hours during public health emergencies or urgent business needs. Residency within the UK is a condition of employment.
