Job Description
Support Worker - On-Going Temporary On-Ongoing post. £14.83 per hour, weekly paid. To work in a Homeless Shelter in Torquay. Hours are either 07:45 – 20:15 or 19:45 – 08:15
To cover for sickness and holidays on an Ad-Hoc bases.
To be successful in this role you will need the following:
1. Good Communication skills
2. Ability to be Calm under pressure, with good listening skills
3. Ability to deal with vulnerable adults that may be stressed or have challenging behaviour
4. Courteous and respectful with all visitors
5. Able to work well in a team and independently
6. Understanding of safeguarding and confidentiality
7. Basic knowledge of mental health/substance misuse issues (desirable)
8. Experience with overnight security or hospitality (essential)
9. Willingness to work unsociable hours’/shift patterns
10. Be available to work a 12 hour shift at short notice
As a Support Worker you will be responsible for:
11. Cover Reception on a rota basis Days/Nights
12. Be the first point of contact for residents during the night
13. Control access to the building and monitor CCTV
14. Carry out hourly health & safety checks
15. Record incidents, update logs, and complete reports
16. Deal with emergencies (fire, first aid, contacting services)
17. Undertake basic repairs/cleaning (e.g. changing light bulbs, clearing hazards)
18. Support residents by listening and offering reassurance overnight
19. Carry out room checks when required
20. Handle neighbour complaints or concerns appropriately
21. Ensure clear handover of information to day staff
22. Participate in supervision, training, and team meetings
