Milk Education is working with a large SEND specialist provision in Southend-on-Sea to recruit Autism Support Workers who genuinely want to make a positive difference in the lives of children and young people with complex SEND needs. This role focuses on supporting learners with Autism and ADHD, alongside a range of additional learning needs, including pupils who are non-verbal or have significant communication needs.
This role is suited to individuals who are patient, calm, and confident, particularly when supporting students who benefit from structured routines, clear communication strategies, and consistent emotional support. Pupils may present with sensory processing differences, emotional regulation needs, or behaviours that communicate unmet needs within a specialist school environment in Southend-on-Sea.
Both full-time and part-time positions are available, offering flexibility to suit your availability.

Autism Support Worker – Key Responsibilities
1. Provide consistent 1:1 and small-group support for pupils aged 5–19 with complex SEND, including Autism and ADHD
2. Support non-verbal pupils using alternative and augmentative communication (AAC) strategies
3. Use tools such as Makaton, visual timetables, and communication boards to support understanding and engagement
4. Support the delivery of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs)
5. Encourage emotional regulation, communication, and engagement in learning
6. Communicate clearly and respectfully with teachers, school staff, and external professionals
7. Help create a structured, calm, and inclusive learning environment
Autism Support Worker – Person Specification
8. Experienced support workers open to working with children are well suited due to the complex needs of pupils at this Southend-on-Sea school
9. Previous experience administering personal care is advantageous, or a willingness to support in this area if required
10. A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs
11. A patient, caring, and non-judgemental approach
12. Strong communication skills with the ability to adapt to individual needs
13. Ability to work proactively, both independently and as part of a team
14. An Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
