Job Overview
Acute Medicine in Wrexham is changing. We currently have six substantive acute physicians and two long term Locums, with subspecialty interests in Respiratory Medicine, Nephrology and Clinical Pharmacology. The Acute Medicine Team is responsible for the Medical Intake 8am – 5pm throughout the week, with support from the GIM rota in the evenings and at the weekends. There is a focus on ambulatory care with two ANPs and a Clinical Hub Nurse in place to support, and plans to expand the ANP team.
Successful candidates will provide senior leadership and management while working alongside trainees and other healthcare professionals. They will work across the front door, ambulatory area, trolley bay and assessment ward to deliver excellent clinical care for acutely unwell patients, provide training and supervision, and play a key role in exciting service development.
This is a fixed term contract.
Main Duties
* Lead development of ambulatory care, specialty in-reach, or other service developments.
* Provide a consultant service for outpatients and inpatients at Wrexham Maelor Hospital.
* Participate in acute medical out of hours cover.
* Participate in departmental meetings, audit and clinical governance activity (including appraisal and revalidation).
* Work as part of the multi‑disciplinary team and liaise closely with consultant colleagues in the Directorates of Medicine.
* Develop strong working links with primary care to reduce unnecessary admissions.
* Perform a prominent role in undergraduate education, particularly in clinical history taking and examination; medical students will be attached to the clinical team on‑call during each 24‑hour period.

Qualifications and Skills
Essential Criteria
* Full GMC registration.
Desirable Criteria
* Specialist registration for general internal medicine.
* Further higher degree.
Clinical Experience
Essential Criteria
* Relevant and recent experience at senior trainee level in general internal medicine.
Desirable Criteria
* Completion of a recognised training programme at SpR or equivalent level.
Interest
Essential Criteria
* Up to‑date portfolio with evidence of relevant audit activity.
Desirable Criteria
* Published papers within the last three years.
Education and Training
Essential Criteria
* CPD up to date.
* Evidence of training others as part of self‑development.
* Experience in supervising junior medical staff.
Desirable Criteria
* Interest in becoming lead in a key area of departmental work.
* Member of the Society of Acute Medicine.
