Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant - North Lincolnshire Make a Real Difference Where It Matters Most Are you someone who sees beyond behaviour and into the heart of a young person? We are seeking a committed Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant to work one-to-one with students in Key Stage 3 and 4 across Pupil Referral Units (PRUs) and Alternative Provisions in North Lincolnshire. If you're passionate about helping young people overcome social, emotional, and behavioural barriers to learning, this could be your opportunity to make a lasting impact. What You'll Be Doing As a Behaviour Support TA, you'll play a key role in the lives of pupils with SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs, many of whom face significant challenges around regulation, anxiety, trauma, and behaviour. You will: Provide 1:1 Behaviour Mentoring Support students with complex needs, using de-escalation strategies, positive reinforcement, and structured routines to help them engage with learning. Build Trusting Relationships Become a reliable, safe adult who students can count on-someone who sees potential where others might see problems. Develop Tailored Interventions Contribute to the creation and delivery of behaviour support plans, personalised strategies, and routines that meet individual student needs. Promote Emotional Literacy Help students identify and express their emotions, reduce anxiety, and build coping mechanisms using restorative and therapeutic approaches. Champion Safeguarding Always prioritise student wellbeing. Follow safeguarding procedures, report concerns promptly, and adhere to KCSIE (Keeping Children Safe in Education) guidelines. Collaborate with Colleagues Work closely with class teachers, SENDCOs, pastoral teams, and external agencies to ensure joined-up support for each young person. What We're Looking For We're looking for individuals who are: Resilient and emotionally intelligent Committed to inclusion and equality Experienced in working with young people who present with SEMH or behavioural needs Able to maintain consistent boundaries and expectations Capable of remaining calm, patient, and compassionate under pressure Essential Skills and Experience To succeed in this role, you should have: Experience working in PRUs, Alternative Provisions, or mainstream settings with pupils requiring behaviour support Strong knowledge of SEMH, behaviour management strategies, and trauma-informed practice Excellent communication, listening, and teamwork skills The ability to de-escalate challenging situations using non-confrontational techniques A sound understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures Desirable (But Not Essential) Qualifications in Youth Work, Counselling, Psychology, Mental Health, or Education Support Team Teach, MAPA, or similar positive handling training Experience in mentoring roles or working within a multi-agency support network This Role is Perfect If You: Are a former youth worker, mentor, pastoral assistant, or behaviour TA looking to take your next step Want to make a difference for pupils who may feel excluded or disengaged from mainstream education Believe every child deserves compassion, consistency, and a second (or third) chance Can handle tough days-and still show up the next day with patience, empathy, and drive Want a role that is as challenging as it is meaningful and rewarding What We Offer A supportive team environment where your contribution is genuinely valued Ongoing CPD opportunities including behaviour management and SEMH training The chance to be part of a school community that transforms lives through compassion, structure, and high expectations Ready to Join a Team That Changes Lives?
