Overview

The role
The main role for the Health Visitor (HV) is to be the designated named HV for all children within their caseload from antenatal to school entry age, excluding the unborn child. The HV will commence the child’s planning process, monitor the child’s wellbeing, and assess if a need is identified. They will work in partnership with the child’s family and all involved agencies to produce a child’s plan which will require monitoring. The postholder is responsible and accountable for maintaining clinical, staff and information governance. We are committed to the key aims of Getting It Right for Every Child (GIRFEC) to provide children and young people with the best possible start in life. Working as a Health Visitor within the Children and Families Health Visiting team, you will provide a high quality, safe, and effective health visiting service in the community, in collaboration with partner agencies.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern
* We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Health Visitor to join our Renfrewshire HSCP Children & Families Health Visiting Team
* The shift pattern for this post is Monday to Friday, 08:30 - 16:30 (three days)
* Please note the salary is pro rata for part time hours
Key responsibilities
* To undertake statutory duties on behalf of NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde with respect to individual children within your caseload to assess, improve and support the wellbeing of children
* To work with all professionals involved with the child or young person and their families to assess, analyse, develop and agree a multiagency child’s plan based on the agreed policies and procedures. Implement and monitor the plan to endeavour to ensure the child’s needs are met and desired outcomes achieved
* To work in partnership with individual children’s families, working with other agencies and key stakeholders to ensure that all parties undertake their responsibilities within the agreed plan
* The Health Visitor will work from the antenatal period to school entry, but excluding the unborn child, and will be responsible for receiving wellbeing concerns from a variety of sources in partner agencies (e.g. police reports) and from any member of the community. The HV will ensure that all information received is analysed and included in the assessment of the child’s wellbeing, needs and potential risks. The HV may decide that the level of concern requires initiation of Child Protection procedures. If the child’s needs are not met the HV will escalate concerns to their line manager or professional manager as determined by professional standards, policies and procedures
* The HV will be responsible for making professional judgments and decisions about the sharing of information about each child and family, balancing risk, data protection (GDPR) and confidentiality, and human rights considerations. The HV will follow law and guidance, using professional judgment to reach decisions to share or not share information
* Support and contribute to continuous quality improvement of families’ care through audits and monitoring compliance to service and professional standards, including Clinical Quality Indicators (CQI), in conjunction with the Team Manager to implement corrective action plans. Ensure appropriate audits are undertaken
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job
* Registered nurse or midwife at degree level or equivalent
* Post-registration qualification in Health Visiting/Public Health Nursing and be registered on Part 3 of the NMC register
* Educated to Masters level in a relevant nursing area, or equivalent
* Can demonstrate an equivalent level of knowledge through, for example, NES modules on Assessment, Leadership, and Critical Thinking
* Can provide advice using understanding of legislation relating to information sharing, data storage and public protection
* Knowledge of health and social care pathways related to safeguarding, early intervention and protection
* Experience of caseload management and planning to meet deadlines
* Experience of using a strength-based approach working in partnership with families
* Able to use assessment tools to decide referral pathways
* Management of risks and concerns using critical thinking to enable effective decision making
* Ability to provide professional advice within a multi-agency setting that puts children’s interests and safety first
* Ability to lead discussions and make decisions based on assessment of a range of factors in complex situations
* Ability to develop and implement policies, procedures, service standards and improvements
* An ongoing commitment to continuing professional development
