EDF Energy plans to build and operate up to two new nuclear plants (pairs of EPRs) in the UK, starting with Hinkley Point C (HPC) in Somerset.
The Joint Design Office (JDO) supports HPC site-based engineering, providing quick responses to engineering queries and issues from site construction, to help meet schedules and expand project scope. This organization helps save time on-site by offering reactive solutions.
Vacancy Overview
Reporting to an Engineering Lead within the Review & Acceptance Branch of the JDO, the successful candidate will be an I&C or electrical Engineer, involved in reviewing and accepting engineering queries from the site DMIC (Design, Manufacture, Install, and Commission) Contractor concerning the I&C scope across the CI/BOP and Nuclear Island buildings.
The role will specifically support I&C change reviews during the commissioning of the Unit 2 Polar Crane, Demin Water Production Plant, auxiliary transformers, and hydrotests of key Turbine Hall components.
The focus will be on the I&C discipline, with collaboration across other disciplines and with various stakeholders, including site contractors, construction teams, quality teams, project management, and design teams (both on-site and back office).
Key Responsibilities:
Respond to general queries, non-conformances, change requests, and exemption requests from the DMIC Contractors, with support from the Responsible Designer or site experts when needed.
Ensure compliance with nuclear safety and environmental regulations.
Challenge design decisions to align with project strategy.
Coordinate support from external organizations.
Contribute to resolving and closing open points.
Assess and address technical risks.
Maintain strong relationships with EDF EPR Engineering (Responsible Designer).
Report operationally to an Engineering Lead.
Key Skills:
Degree or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline.
Experience in I&C design, installation, and/or commissioning.
Knowledge of multi-disciplinary technical aspects within the nuclear industry.
Understanding of construction and installation industries.
Knowledge of health & safety legislation, including CDM and Nuclear Site License requirements.
Ability to influence diverse stakeholders, especially in a site environment.
Proactive, independent working style with good reporting and escalation skills.
