Role Overview
This is a developmental role. You will work towards successful completion of a BSc (Hons) degree in podiatry and recognition by the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) as an Allied Health Professional AHP Podiatrist. You will develop and maintain knowledge, skills and competencies related to the role of Podiatrist within the service and through completion of the Podiatry training programme which includes working in clinic and community care settings and delivery of direct person-centred care. Whilst undertaking this training you will work within the service as a podiatry assistant. As the role is community based and we cover the whole of East Sussex, car driving will be essential. Towards the end of the apprenticeship you will be supported (subject to meeting our behaviour standards, performance expectations and your apprenticeship) to apply for permanent vacancies within the Trust. If you withdraw from the apprenticeship before its completion, your post may be at risk. Once the BSc has been completed, you will be eligible to apply to the HCPC as an AHP Podiatrist. Travel costs related to this course will need to be met by the apprentice as this is a paid post and the course is otherwise fully funded for you.
Academic Requirements for this role: Whilst undertaking this training you will work within the service as a podiatry assistant and training will be given for all aspects of this role which you will be fulfilling during the breaks from semesters. The apprentice Podiatry programme combines and integrates both academic and work‑based learning through close collaboration between employers and education providers. As an apprentice podiatrist you will be based as an employee within East Sussex Healthcare Trust, working in hospital, community and clinical settings in order that you gain a wide appreciation of many health and care contexts to enable you to fulfil all the requirements of the BSc (Hons) Podiatry programme. On successful completion of the programme you will be a qualified Podiatrist and equipped with the knowledge, understanding, skills, attitudes and behaviours relevant to employment as an AHP Podiatrist and will work to a nationally recognised code of conduct.
The academic part of the training will be provided by the University Of Brighton University (UoB) where you will undertake modules as detailed below:
