Prospero teaching are working with a Pupil Referral Unit in Ardwick, the school deals with students with additional needs and mental health issues
This is a classroom based role, providing mentoring and pastoral support to the students. The pupils are aged 11-16 years old KS3/4 secondary, all with EHCP plans and additional needs. The pupils have usually experienced some form of trauma, neglect or chaotic home life or all of these things. Your role is to build a connection with the young people and act as a mentor and role model for the students.
Responsibilities
* Provide mentoring and pastoral support to students in a classroom setting.
* Build strong relationships with pupils and act as a mentor and role model.
* Utilise mentoring skills (similar to those used in sports, drama, counselling) to help individuals engage with the school.
* Collaborate with staff to support students with SEMH and EHCP plans.
* Develop connections that support attendance, engagement and progression within the school.
Requirements / Qualifications
* Strong TA or tutoring background with experience in PRUs or SEMH schools.
* Must drive and have access to own car for this role.
* LEVEL 2 Teaching Assistant or equivalent and above is preferable.
* GCSE Maths and English and computer literate.
* Right to Work in the UK.
* Enhanced child DBS certificate registered with the online update service or willingness to process a new application.
* Two professional child-related references covering at least the last two years.
