Overview

Are you a dedicated and highly effective educator committed to raising the achievement of all students within your subject area? Join us as a Teacher, where you will be instrumental in delivering high-quality learning, utilising a range of teaching and learning strategies to ensure student success. This position requires a professional who is aware of strategies for improving learning, understands curriculum developments, and is creative in finding solutions to enhance student performance.

Welcome From The Principal

We are a free school in the centre of Middlesbrough, and we do things differently! I am proud to introduce Outwood Academy Riverside, an innovative free school within a nationally renowned Trust that nurtures talent and provides high-quality professional development. Opened in 2020, Riverside is a place where genuine care for every family member is central. Our community is built on core values of kindness, compassion, respect, and integrity. We maintain academic rigour and high expectations, resulting in very good behaviour and attendance above the national average. Students gain exceptional personal development opportunities including Cadets, MiSST, and LAMDA.

About The Department

This department believes in the transformative power of computing and is eager to inspire the next generation of digital innovators. We encourage students to explore modern digital technology and aim to break down barriers, especially for girls and minorities. We support each other in achieving these aims.

We have three well-maintained computer suites and teach OCR Level 1/Level 2 GCSE (9-1) in Computer Science, Pearson BTEC Level 1/Level 2 Tech Award in Digital Information Technology, and OCR Level 1/Level 2 GCSE (9-1) in Business.

Responsibilities

The Teacher is expected to implement and use a wide range of teaching and learning strategies within the classroom, applying techniques such as Assessment for Learning to continually improve student performance. Key duties include effectively using student level data to identify development areas and raise standards, maintaining high expectations for all students, and communicating with students and parents orally and in writing.

The teacher must collaborate with the team, share good practice across the department, demonstrate creativity in problem solving, and adapt new approaches.

Qualifications

Essential qualifications include a degree in an appropriate discipline related to the relevant subject and a teaching qualification plus Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). Required experience includes recent and relevant teaching experience (either in employment or training) and experience of assessment at Key Stage 3 and 4.

Successful candidates must be confident in using standard computer packages (word processing, email, spreadsheets) and understand how these tools can enhance student learning. The role demands high levels of professionalism, the ability to relate to students pleasantly and sympathetically, and an awareness of child safeguarding issues.

Benefits

* Competitive salary, automatic pay progression, and enrolment in the Teachers' Pension Scheme.
* Access to extensive CPD, progression to Master’s level, and development via the Outwood Institute of Education and National Institute of Teaching.
* Commitment to a manageable workload through our Workload Charter and a guaranteed minimum of two hours of CPD each week.
* Enhanced occupational leave, flexible family policies, and access to an Employee Assistance Programme.

All appointments are made in accordance with safer recruitment practices and the statutory guidance in Keeping Children Safe in Education.
