Assistant Technical Officer

We are seeking an Assistant Technical Officer to join the Medical Engineering Department within Estates and Facilities. The postholder will provide day‑to‑day technical and logistical support to a multidisciplinary team responsible for the management and maintenance of a large and diverse portfolio of medical devices used across Trust and community sites. The role supports safe, effective and compliant use of medical equipment through stock management, device movements, basic maintenance activities and accurate record keeping. This is a practical, hands‑on role requiring good communication skills, attention to detail and the ability to work calmly within a busy healthcare environment.

Main duties of the job
The Assistant Technical Officer will support the Medical Engineering Department in the commissioning, collection, return and disposal of medical devices across wards and departments. Duties include managing spare parts, assisting with the maintenance of the Trust asset management system, and carrying out basic electrical safety testing, routine servicing, calibration and minor repairs on a range of medical electronic equipment. The postholder will liaise with clinical staff, suppliers and colleagues to coordinate access for maintenance and testing, maintain accurate service records, and ensure equipment is handled and transported safely. The role also involves supporting apprentices and students, working in accordance with health and safety legislation, MHRA guidance and departmental procedures, and contributing to a positive team‑based working culture.

Person Specification

Qualifications & Education
* Current full UK driving licence
* NVQ Level 3 in a related Engineering discipline
* Recognised IT competency qualification (e.g., ECDL)
Knowledge & Experience
* An appreciation of electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and electromechanical applications
* Knowledge of Health and Safety Legislation
* Experience in a similar/relevant maintenance environment
* Previous experience of working in a maintenance environment, working with tools and equipment
* Relevant experience within a maintenance environment
* Experience of PAT testing
