Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, motivated RCN to join the Harrow Community Paediatrics team as a Specialist Neurodevelopmental Paediatric Nurse. This dynamic role supports high‑quality, family‑centred care for children and young people with neurodevelopmental conditions including ADHD, autism, epilepsy, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy and complex neurodisability.

You will act as a key clinical liaison, coordinating care with families, schools, GPs, therapists, hospitals and multi‑agency partners. A key focus will be supporting the ADHD pathway through baseline assessments, medication monitoring aligned with NICE guidance, safe prescribing processes, and reducing waiting times via nurse‑led follow‑ups / titration.

Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to specialist assessments, nurse‑led clinics, safeguarding, Education Health and Care advice, and transitions to adult services. The role also includes supporting service development, audit, QI and parent/carer education.

This post requires excellent communication, strong clinical judgement, safeguarding expertise and the ability to manage a complex caseload independently. Applicants must hold NMC registration as a Registered Children’s Nurse with relevant neurodevelopmental experience. A Non‑Medical Prescribing qualification (or willingness to undertake one) is desirable.

Main duties of the job

To provide a clinical liaison role, supporting and coordinating communication between families, schools, GPs, therapists and hospital paediatric services.

· The post holder will support the service’s capacity to manage increasing demand for children with neurodevelopmental conditions, neurodisability, epilepsy, those on ADHD medication and to support Genomic counselling

· The post holder will also support clinical efficiency, reduce waiting times and support safer prescribing and monitoring,

· To provide more responsive, family-centred care within the community.

· To participate in multi-disciplinary teamwork, e.g. CDT referral meeting, Multi-Disciplinary Assessments (MDA) for children and young people with complex needs.

· Work in collaboration with transition to adulthood services.

· Work closely with the Children's Community Nursing, Special School Nursing team and 0-19 services.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

·Deliver baseline ADHD assessments, monitor vitals/side effects in line with NICE guidance, provide medication education, shared‑care liaison and timely titration.

·Work within the MDT on neurodevelopmental pathways, including Social Communication and multidisciplinary assessments. Lead Down syndrome nurse‑led clinics, support CP surveillance and coordinate care for children with complex needs and/or life limiting conditions.

·Support families to understand conditions and treatment options and contribute to EHCP medical advice.

·Coordinate follow‑up for epilepsy, promoting medication adherence and safety planning.

·Recognise and respond to child and adult safeguarding concerns, follow local procedures, document accurately and attend required supervision/meetings.

·Contribute to service development, audits and quality improvement, including wait‑time reduction and alignment with national guidance.

·Deliver education to CYP, families and staff; maintain mandatory training and engage in supervision and appraisal.

·Participate in clinical audit, QI, research and governance to support evidence‑based practice.

·Manage workload effectively, support pathway development, handle queries/complaints, and maintain high‑quality record keeping in line with NMC standards.

·Apply infection prevention and control measures consistently.

·Demonstrate strong communication, cultural sensitivity, resilience and emotional robustness in managing complex cases and sensitive situations.

·Work primarily in office and clinic settings with regular VDU use and travel between sites as required.
