About The Role

Job Description

The Heathrow Shared Apprenticeship Scheme is one of the UK’s most exciting apprenticeship programmes. The scheme provides career changing opportunities for residents close to the airport.

Quantity Surveyors operate specialised equipment, ensure data accuracy, and perform cost assessments. Surveyors also process information, review tenders, and collaborate with other construction professionals. Strong technical skills and attention to detail are crucial for success in this role. Duties typically include:

1. Take accurate financial information related to construction projects.
2. Producing take-offs for building plans.
3. Communicate with clients and colleagues to exchange financial construction-related information.
4. Understand and ensure Legal and regulatory compliance is followed.
5. Administrate and analyse contracts, timesheets, tenders, pre-qualifying questionnaires, and price lists.
6. Perform cost assessments, measurements, or valuations using research-derived data.
7. Prioritise safety for oneself and others in the work environment.

The apprenticeship will develop the technical, interpersonal, and behavioural skills, knowledge and competence outcomes that are required for surveying technicians to work effectively within a range of working environments.

Typical Work Week

40 hours p/w with start time typically between 07:00 & 08:00 inclusive of paid 8 hours at college.

Person Specification

8. A ‘can do’ attitude – willing to get stuck in, take accountability for decisions and actions and who takes pride in their work
9. A love of variety in a role and ability to adapt to a dynamic, fast-paced working environment
10. Ability to quickly prioritise tasks and the initiative to dive head-first into problem solving
11. No two days are the same on the front line and not every day goes to plan, so you’ll need to be quick on your feet to respond!
12. Excellent communication and collaboration skills and enjoy working with multiple teams
13. Ability to analyse and interpret information and effectively communicate this to different team members and audiences
14. Ability to travel freely across our patch to visit different sites and travel to training days
15. Curiosity to learn quickly in a reactive and dynamic working environment.
16. Ability to work in all weather conditions to serve our customers and protect the environment
17. Able to understand and follow health and safety protocols

Qualifications required/desirable

Minimum Requirements

English and Maths at GCSE Grade 3 or above, or Functional Skills at Level 1 or above.

Key Training/College Information

K10 will enrol you to the Level 4 Construction Quantity Surveying Technician course and fund your qualifications through an accredited training provider.

The apprenticeship duration is 36 months.

Eligibility

To start this apprenticeship, you’ll need to be:

18. living in England for the last 3 years and have right to work status
19. Not enrolled on any other courses
20. 18+ due to site H&S rules

To be eligible for the Heathrow Shared Apprenticeship Scheme, you must reside in one of the following regions:

21. Hillingdon
22. Hounslow
23. Ealing
24. Spelthorne
25. Windsor & Maidenhead
26. South Buckinghamshire
27. Elmbridge
28. Slough
29. Runnymede
