As a Data Scientist, you will be part of our newly formed cross-functional squads that consist of people from different job functions across Rightmove including Machine Learning Engineers, Data Scientists, Software Developers, Machine Learning Ops Engineers, and a Product Owner. The squads are collaborative, ambitious, and determined teams that work with a high degree of autonomy and velocity, and value innovation and impact. They sit within the Data and Analytics Team, which is part of the Product Development organisation and plays a pivotal role in delivering exciting solutions. Last year Rightmove launched a project called RAID (Rightmove AI Discovery) which was an opportunity to successfully explore, experiment and innovate with generative AI. The outputs from RAID, combined with the prioritised Hackathon ideas have contributed to our future product roadmaps. We are looking for a talented Data Scientist who can leverage advanced analytics, statistical modelling, and generative AI to help us solve diverse problems and improve Rightmove’s experience for the consumer and estate agents. In this role you will be responsible for transforming raw data into meaningful actionable insight. You will collaborate with teams to identify business opportunities, design, and implement machine learning models, and develop innovative solutions. As well, you will play a pivotal role in developing and implementing models that go beyond traditional machine learning techniques. Working closely with cross functional teams you will explore and apply generative AI techniques contributing to the creation of novel solutions and driving innovation. You will bring passion for exploring new technologies and have a strong foundation in statistical modelling. The Data & Analytics Team has continuously grown over the past 18 months, and we continue to invest in enriching our data and data science capabilities to deliver effective and impactive solutions in an industry that is exciting, interesting, relevant, and challenging. A typical week as a Data Scientist might involve • Collaborating with Machine Learning Engineers and Data Engineers to gather, clean and pre-process datasets for traditional machine learning and generative modelling • Applying statistical methods to analyse and interpret complex datasets considering both traditional and generative AI models • Design and implementing generative AI models for tasks such as image synthesis, text generation or recommendation systems • Identifying and engineering features that enhance both traditional and generative performance • Collaborating with domain experts to extract meaningful features for both machine learning and generative AI applications • Search and development of new algorithms, methods and statistical models providing insight into both structured and unstructured data • Machine learning model monitoring in production using MLOps practices • Providing understandable and meaningful insights for business customers and stakeholders • Designing and evaluating experiments, monitoring key product metrics, and understanding the root causes of changes in metrics • Providing critical inputs to both short-term tactical actions and long-term technology choices and strategies • Effectively communicate insights and recommendations across the organisation so that the audience has a clear understanding We’re looking for someone who • Who has relevant and impactful experience of developing and deploying traditional machine learning models. Experience of large language models and generative AI frameworks would be welcomed. • Can help support organisational capabilities around machine learning and generative AI • Knows how to understand and tackle loosely defined problems and come up with impactful insights and recommendations • Has demonstrable experience in leveraging analytics to generate business value • Can communicate findings to technical and non-technical audiences • Can provide data-driven insights to support decision making across departments • Is curious and has a creative mind, coupled with first rate critical thinking skills • Has the ability to initiate and drive projects to completion • Has experience working within cross functional teams and collaborating across teams • Has the ability to challenge and question ideas, openly and honestly, whilst providing solutions and options • Keeps abreast of the latest advancements in data science, machine learning and generative AI • Can evaluate and recommend new tools, technologies, and methodologies specific to generative AI • Has experience with Google BigQuery or proficiency in SQL We would love someone to have any of the following • Batchelors, Masters or Ph.D in a quantative field. For example, Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, or a related STEM subject degree • 3 years of experience as a data scientist with some exposure to generative AI techniques • Professional experience in SQL and Python beyond scripting; knowledge of basic paradigms (e.g. Object-orientated programming), related tools (e.g. Git) and core libraries and deep learning frameworks (e.g. PyTorch, Tensorflow, Keras); cloud technologies, particularly GCP • Strong knowledge of statistical analysis and machine learning. Experience of pre-trained generative AI models (e.g. OpenAI GPT models) and frameworks (e.g. generative adversarial networks and variational encoders) would be desirable • Experience with data visualisation tools • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail • Strong interpersonal skills and are comfortable working with multiple stakeholders
