Specialist Nurse - Children in Care

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, highly motivated and innovative Specialist Nurse to join the Warwickshire Children in Care Team, South Warwickshire Foundation Trust. This is a senior level post, therefore, knowledge and experience is required to reflect this.

The successful applicant will work collaboratively with the Named Nurse/Specialist Nurses and Named/Designated Doctor to ensure that the organisation meets its responsibilities to Children in Care by carrying out high quality, complex, timely health assessments working in partnership with other agencies to ensure that the health needs for Children in Care are met in a holistic and timely manner.

Main duties of the job

* To quality assess and monitor completed review health assessments for Children in Care including those with complex needs or identified as hard to reach.
* To work in collaboration with service providers across the local health economy and with partner agencies within and outside the county, to ensure that the health of Children in Care is a priority of practice and service provision.
* To undertake high quality, complex, timely health assessments for Children in Care, young people and care leavers including asylum seekers and work with interpreters as required.
* To engage with hard to reach children and young people in order to effectively ensure their health needs are identified and met.
* To provide expert direct clinical practice plus advise and support practitioners across the health economy in health matters relating to Children in Care, which is consistent with current professional standards and promotes best practice, as single agency and multi-agency events, supported by the Integrated Care Pathway.
* The post holder will provide expert advice, training and supervision to those who work directly with looked after children e.g. foster carers and social workers.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* RN/RGN/Specialist Community Public Health Nurse
* Master's degree in related/relevant subject or equivalent


Experience

* Significant recent post qualification experience with a substantial period at Band 6
* Experience of working with vulnerable children
* Experience of managing own workload
* Must be able to make autonomous decisions
* Experience of taking management responsibility / Leadership skills
* Experience of providing supervision for nurses / specialist community practitioners and administrators
* Experience of service development and innovation
* Experience of working with children in care


Skills

* Robust understanding of legislation and guidance relating to Children in Care
* Robust understanding of legislation and guidance for Children in Carel>
* Sound knowledge of national and local guidelines for Children in Care and protecting children
* Competent or willing to train to be competent in venepuncture
* Excellent clinical skills providing direct work with vulnerable groups
* Ability to lead on audit
* Chair meetings in absence of Named Nurse
* Use data to construct reports
* Excellent oral, written communication, report writing and presentation skills
* Must be able to demonstrate excellent negotiation skills across agencies concerning vulnerable groups
* Must be able to work confidently in a multi-agency environment and make autonomous complex clinical and organisational decisions
* Must demonstrate effective leadership skills
* Must be able to demonstrate effective management skills
* Must be able to make autonomous decisions
* Must demonstrate an ability to effectively plan, prepare, deliver, evaluate and update training packages in response to national and local guidance
* Must be able to demonstrate sound knowledge of Clinical Governance
* Evidence of continued, up to date extensive and relevant professional development and training at national, regional and local level
* Must have the ability to work as part of a team

* Must have excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills
* Must be able to demonstrate a robust understanding of the need for confidentiality in all aspects of the work of the department and ensure that this is demonstrated by more junior staff
* Must be able to demonstrate a sound understanding of equal opportunities

* Must be able to influence and motivate others
* Must be an excellent timekeeper
* Must be reliable and work with integrity at all times


Other Job requirements

* Must be a non-smoker whilst on duty
* Must have access to independent transport
* Must be willing to undertake Criminal Records Bureau to enhanced level
* Must be legally entitled to work in this country
* Must have sound IT skills or be prepared to undertake training and be able to work with a range of Microsoft packages
