GSL Education are on the lookout for a motivated Outdoor Teaching Assistant to join a specialist education setting near Wareham. You will play a vital part in supporting learners aged 16–25+ with Special Educational Needs (SEN), helping them gain practical skills and confidence through outdoor, vocational education.
About the School: The school is an education setting based for 16 – 25+ years old with Special Educational Needs. It is based on 350 acres of beautiful Dorset countryside. The school operate enterprise activities and vocational teaching methods to bridge the gap between education and employment for young people and adults with SEN in Dorset and the local area. The school focuses on vocations like horticulture, agriculture, equine skills and animal care as well as many more, to enrich the lives and education of its pupils.
Responsibilities:
Support young people with SEN in outdoor, practical learning across areas such as horticulture, animal care, agriculture, and equine studies.
Assist in delivering enterprise-based activities designed to prepare learners for employment and independent living.
Work one-to-one and in small groups to promote engagement, confidence, and personal development.
Help maintain outdoor learning areas and ensure a safe, structured, and inclusive environment for all pupils.
Collaborate with teaching staff and specialists to provide consistent, learner-centred support.
Encourage a positive attitude to outdoor learning and resilience in all weather conditions.
Requirements:
A passion for outdoor learning and supporting young people with Special Educational Needs.
Willingness to work in a hands-on role in a rural, outdoor setting across the seasons.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a caring and patient approach.
Previous experience in SEN, outdoor education, or vocational learning is desirable but not essential.
A proactive, flexible attitude and the ability to work as part of a team.
Ideally need a valid driving license and be willing to drive.
An enhanced DBS certificate on the update service or willingness to apply through GSL Education.
