Job Summary
The Inpatient Therapy teams at Ipswich Hospital are looking to recruit a General Therapy Assistant Practitioner (Band 4) to manage the Equipment Service at Ipswich Hospital and work alongside therapy colleagues to support in‑patient therapy services. This is a 1‑year fixed‑term, 0.8 WTE role with 30 hrs per week and two possible patterns: 09:00–15:30 or 08:30–15:00, each 5 days a week. Closing date: 14 June 2026. UK driving licence essential.
Main Duties
* Oversee and coordinate delivery, distribution and monitoring of stock in the designated equipment sub‑stores across the hospital site, in association with the Central Equipment Store.
* Provide equipment for Integrated Therapies teams from the main satellite store.
* Support induction of new starters to the therapy department through education on equipment store processes.
* Under guidance of a registered therapist, complete simple access visits to patients’ homes, complete visit reports and feed back to the registered staff on visit outcomes.
* Support the registered workforce with planning, implementation, evaluation and monitoring of agreed interventions to promote functional fitness of patients for discharge, consistent with their abilities, preferences and cultural beliefs.
Qualifications
* Intermediate level of theoretical knowledge and clinical reasoning skills acquired through coursework, in‑house training and experience equivalent to NVQ Level 3.
* UK driving licence essential.
Experience
* Experience as a therapy assistant or at a similar level in a related health care / health and fitness / social care sector.
* Demonstrable experience of delivering tailored personal care.
* Completion of Integrated Therapies assistant core and/or specific competencies or equivalent.
* Experience of rehab and reablement of patients.
Knowledge
* Ability to work on own initiative without direct supervision.
* Able to maintain clinical records and complete basic reports.
* Ability to provide and receive complex and sensitive information.
* Knowledge of basic medical conditions and understanding the impact of illness and disability on individuals and families.
* Knowledge of roles of the MDT.
* Understanding of the role and application of occupational therapy and physiotherapy.
Skills
* Good written and verbal communication skills.
