Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist
The Trust is seeking to appoint a Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist to join the Medium Secure Inpatient Services. This newly created post arises from the continued expansion of the Trust’s Medium Secure Services and comprises 7½ Direct Clinical Care (DCC) sessions and 2½ Supporting Professional Activities (SPA) sessions.
The Medium Secure services deliver specialist inpatient care for the Merseyside and Cheshire regions. Rowan View, opened in 2020, provides 95 inpatient beds (85 male and 10 female) for individuals with a primary diagnosis of mental illness and also offers medium secure care for men with a primary diagnosis of Learning Disability.
Responsibilities
* Provide clinical leadership as a responsible clinician at Rowan View Medium Secure Unit, managing a caseload of approximately 15 male inpatients and overseeing around 20 new admissions per year.
* Serve as one of several visiting forensic consultants to a local category B prison (HMP Liverpool or HMP Altcourse).
* Collaborate closely with low secure units, community forensic teams, step‑down services and other partner agencies to facilitate effective progression of patients through the forensic care pathway.
* Support higher trainees in admission assessments under Consultant supervision and work alongside resident doctors.
Qualifications & Requirements
* Full GMC registration.
* MRCPsych qualification desirable.
* Inclusion in the Specialist Register for Forensic Psychiatry or within six months of entry to the Register at the time of application.
* Approval under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983 and Approved Clinician (AC) status.
* Commitment to 10 sessions per week (7½ DCC + 2½ SPA).
