Uppingham School, founded in 1584, is a leading co-educational independent boarding school which runs 24/7 in term-time. It has a strong academic profile and excellent pastoral care with an international reputation, and state-of-the-art science, sports and music facilities. The School employs around 550 staff across its estates, facilities and support services.
The Estates team of about 40 people works under the Estates Director across Maintenance, Grounds, Gardens, Estates compliance, Porterage and Security. The School is undertaking an Infrastructure Strategy to improve and renew elements of the Estate, including its core boarding provision.

Job Purpose
We are seeking a self-motivated and reliable Qualified Plumber for Reactive tasks predominantly, with support for PPM tasks and small project works. Experience in an education environment and a general maintenance background is beneficial.
Responsibilities
* Predominantly reactive maintenance of both domestic and commercial buildings.
* Maintain pumps, cylinders, and control gear throughout all buildings; maintain hot and cold-water systems.
* Complete statutory PPMs and follow the PPM planner.
* Install new pipework, services and fittings as required; repair leaks; repairs to guttering.
* Collaborate with other maintenance team members and assist contractors as required.
* Keep up to date with new materials and methods; update records on the CAFM system.
* Carry out other duties as required by the Head of M&E or Head of Fabric; work safely and in accordance with health and safety legislation and policy.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
* Self-motivated with a flexible approach; able to use initiative to complete works safely.
* Plumbing Qualification – City & Guilds Plumbing Qualification (Preferred); ideally a minimum of 3 years experience.
* Valid UK Driving Licence (Required).
* CSCS (Preferred).
* Literate with IT skills to complete basic records and use the CAFM system.
* Broad and extensive knowledge of plumbing and heating systems; fault finding and repair methods.
* Knowledge of above and below ground foul and rainwater drainage systems; experience with various pipework materials (iron, copper, lead, plastic).
* Knowledge of safe working practices and health and safety regulations; awareness of COSHH and asbestos considerations.
Terms and Benefits
* Working hours: Monday–Friday, 39 hours per week; some out-of-hours work may be required for a senior role, including possible emergency attendance.
* Salary: £28,000 – £30,000 depending on experience.
* Holidays: 25 days + public holidays; additional specifics as stated in entitlement policy.
* Pension: Defined contribution; employer contribution matched by the School up to 10%.
