Trainee Solicitor at Temple Heelis Solicitors

EMPLOYEE JOB DESCRIPTION

Department: Residential Property Department

Position: Full Time

Qualification: Qualified Licensed Conveyancer, Solicitor, or Legal Executive (CILEx).

PQE experience: 3 years +

Job Summary: To manage and complete property transactions from instruction to post completion, ensuring all legal requirements are met and clients receive professional service.


Key Tasks


Managing Property Transactions

* Handle a diverse caseload of residential conveyancing transactions including sales, purchases, transfers and remortgages.
* Conduct title checks, prepare and review contracts, and raise or respond to enquiries.
* Carry out searches (local authority, environmental, drainage, etc.).
* Liaise with clients, estate agents, mortgage lenders, surveyors, and other Solicitors.
* Ensure completion and post-completion formalities, including registration at the Land Registry and payment of Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT).


Legal and Compliance Work

* Draft and review legal documents (contracts, leases, transfer deeds, etc.).
* Ensure compliance with anti-money laundering (AML) regulations.
* Maintain up-to-date knowledge of property law, Land Registry procedures, and lender requirements.
* Keep accurate, detailed case files in line with firm policies and regulatory standards (e.g., SRA, CLC).


Client Care

* Provide clear and timely communication to clients.
* Manage client expectations and resolve queries or issues efficiently.
* Deliver an excellent standard of client care.


Teamwork

* Work closely with Trainees, assistants, paralegals and other conveyancers.
* Contribute to team targets.
* Assist in training junior staff when required.


Skills and Competencies

* High attention to detail and good organisational skills.
* Ability to manage a busy caseload independently.
* Good IT literacy (case management systems, Land Registry portal, etc.).
* Maintain confidentiality and data protection standards at all times.
* Professional, client-focused attitude.

The above list is not exhaustive and other tasks within the scope of the post and capabilities of the post holder may be allocated from time to time. Full training will be provided and all allocated tasks will be supervised and checked.
