Role Description
COTEC is an outstation of Cranfield Defence and Security within the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Sciences and is located on Salisbury Plain south of Devizes. The site is leased from the MOD and all range operations are carried out under the authority of Defence Training Estates Salisbury Plain DTE(SP). The site carries out a large range of tasks primarily based around the testing and evaluation of explosives, ordnance and munitions for defence and commercial customers. The site also carries out research and supports the research projects of Cranfield University students.
About the Role
The Operations Manager is responsible for the COTEC site located on Salisbury Plain, some 36 miles from Shrivenham. The role includes management of staff in the safe and cost-effective conduct and successful completion of all test and evaluation activities (amounting to in the region of £2.5M over the period of a year). The post holder will actively maintain the existing customer base and develop new business by liaison with current and prospective customers. Responsible for the career development and wellbeing of on-site staff. The post holder will also contribute to the development and delivery of postgraduate and short courses and collaborate with colleagues at the Shrivenham site on consultancy projects.
About You
You will have substantial vocational experience in Ordnance Munitions and Explosives. This could be, demonstrated by evidence of a recent career as an Ammunition Technician or ammunition Technical Officer achieving SNCO, Warrant Officer or Commissioned Officer Rank. Experience of business/financial management and business development in the defence or commercial sectors is essential.
You will be proactive, with strong team management and organisational skills, able to work independently with minimal supervision, and communicate clearly and effectively at all levels.
