Path Links is a networked NHS Pathology service offering a wide range of diagnostic investigations on tissue, blood, and fluid samples. All Path Links laboratories are accredited to United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) ISO 15189 standards. A Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) is an integral part of a pathology laboratory team. An MLA supports Biomedical Scientists in delivering a first class diagnostic service to medical professionals. The MLA role is both challenging and rewarding. It is centred around ensuring patients receive the very best level of care in the analysis of their samples and the results that are produced. These results inform medical professionals on important decisions that they make regarding patient care.

Main Duties of the Job
 * Part of a Microbiology team, providing services to clinicians and general practitioners.
 * Assist qualified laboratory staff in the delivery of an effective service, including support duties in other laboratory areas.
 * Perform delegated work and duties under the direct and indirect supervision of a State Registered Biomedical Scientist (BMS), utilising Standard Operating Procedures.
 * Undergo extensive 'in-house' training using modules and competency assessments to achieve a level of knowledge equivalent to NVQ level II qualification.
 * Work with a variety of specimen types and pieces of equipment to deliver analytical results.
 * Handle general laboratory duties such as cleaning, stock management and maintenance of equipment.
 * Participate in a weekday late shift and weekend rota, including public holidays, with advance shift allocation.

Education & Qualifications
 * GCSE or O level equivalent in 3 subjects, including science.
Occupational Experience (Desirable)
 * Previous laboratory experience.
 * Previous experience in NHS.
 * Teamworking and communication skills.
 * IT skills.
