Job Purpose
To oversee and manage the efficient and compliant operation of the HGV fleet, ensuring timely deliveries, vehicle safety, legal compliance, and cost-effective transport solutions. The Transport Manager will lead a team of drivers and support staff, ensuring high standards of service and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
· Oversee the day-to-day operations of the HGV fleet, including scheduling, routing, and maintenance planning.
· Ensure all transport activities comply with DVSA regulations, Operator Licence requirements, tachograph laws, and Working Time Directive.
· Recruit, train, and supervise HGV drivers. Monitor performance, conduct regular briefings, and ensure adherence to safety and driving standards.
· Coordinate regular vehicle inspections, servicing, and MOTs. Maintain accurate records and ensure all vehicles are roadworthy and safe.
· Manage transport budgets, monitor fuel usage, reduce empty running, and identify cost-saving opportunities.
· Work closely with other business departments to ensure smooth delivery operations and resolve any transport-related issues.
· Use transport management systems (TMS), telematics, and other software to monitor fleet performance and produce regular reports.
· Investigate accidents or breakdowns, liaise with insurers, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Qualifications & Experience
· CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) – Essential
· Proven experience managing HGV operations and drivers
· Strong knowledge of UK transport legislation and compliance
· Experience with route planning, fleet tracking, and TMS software
· Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
Desirable Skills
· IOSH or NEBOSH certification
· Knowledge of sustainability practices in transport

Pay: £35,000.00-£55,000.00 per year
