This is an exciting opportunity to join the Psychological Services at UCLH in the psychotherapy team. The Psychotherapy team provides a range of assessments and psychotherapy interventions, including longer term and shorter term, treatment to children and young people (including young adults) within a variety of paediatric services. In addition to direct therapeutic work, which may include individual, small group and parent work, the post holder will be available to consult to staff about children and young people and be available to staff for support. Main duties of the job In addition to the wide range of clinical work, the post holder will also participate in audit and contribute to policy and service development and research within the area served by Department of Child and Adolescent Psychological Medicine The post holder will be a member of the Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy team at in the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychological Medicine based in UCLH, where the specialist CAMHS service also includes Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists and Clinical Psychologists. Regular clinical supervision will be provided by the Head of Child Psychotherapy. In addition, there are weekly Psychotherapy Discipline Meetings, which includes group supervision from a senior Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist and Continuing Professional Development events. The post holder will also be expected to represent child psychotherapy in other MDT forums across a variety of services. Job responsibilities UCLH: The department of Child and Adolescent Psychological Medicine within the Division of Paediatrics and Adolescent medicine deliver a broad range of child and adolescent mental health provision across the whole of UCLH. With our colleagues from psychiatry, psychology, social work, paediatrics and nursing the child psychotherapy team have roles within Paediatric liaison services, the feeding clinic, Turner clinic, inpatient assessment, and general paediatric outpatient clinics. There is also a busy multi-disciplinary Psych-oncology team based at the Macmillan Cancer Centre. Child psychotherapists additionally provide input in a broad range of adolescent services including the TRACCS service; a national service for children and young people with complex medical needs, including chronic fatigue and other medically unexplained symptoms. Our outpatient clinics are commissioned by NHS Camden and provide mental health assessment and treatment for local children and young people with complex health issues. With both a local and national remit our patients come from a broad demographic. Child Psychotherapy has a central role in the supervision and support of colleagues in many specialist fields including play specialists, clinical nurse specialists (CNS), junior Drs, and colleagues working in emergency medicine. The MDTs within the division are multi-professional and include paediatricians, nurses, dieticians, social workers and play specialists. Person Specification Knowledge and Qualifications Essential • Honours Degree • Doctoral level training in Child & Adolescent Psychotherapy at an ACP recognised training school. • Knowledge of psychoanalytic theory and an understanding of implication for clinical activity. • A working knowledge of Child Protection legislation and safeguarding procedures and processes. Desirable • Relevant post graduate study and research, e.g. infant observation, child development, parent-infant mental health. Experience Essential • Extensive work in a MDT and multi-agency setting. • Extensive clinical experience of intensive and non intensive psychotherapy with individual children, parents and adolescents. Interest in short/medium term models and interventions with children, parents and adolescents. • Experience and interest in therapeutic engagement with harder to reach populations. Desirable • Experience of working alongside paediatricians and nursing colleagues in working with children and young people with complex conditions and medical diagnoses. • Extensive experience of work with parents in individual psychotherapy and groups.
