Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic oncology nurse to be involved in the delivery of a research programme to assess the remote management of patients receiving immunotherapy.
The post holder will lead, the remote intervention, responding to alerts generated by the patient self-report system. The post will involve assisting patients to use the technology as well as safety reporting for the study. The role will involve liaising closely with the multi-disciplinary clinical and research team involved in the E-IMMUNE research programme (e-immune.org.uk).

There is also the opportunity for an appropriate candidate to develop a PhD around the remote management of patients in the late effects setting, following completion of immunotherapy treatment.

The post is offered as a 4-year fixed term contract at the end of which there will be no opportunity for an extension or for the post to become permanent.

Main duties of the job

As a Band 7 Research Nurse you will play a pivotal role the delivery of the research programme, supporting patients and liaising with a team of skilled professionals. This position offers the opportunity to develop your research skills, influence patient care, and contribute to service development within a thriving, fast-paced environment.


You will:

Provide leadership for the day to day running of the E-IMMUNE study within the unit.

Undertake research in the area of immunotherapy late effects in line with project requirements.

Manage data collection and storage on a day-to-day basis.

Liaise closely with other academics, advisers and administrators relevant to the study.

Work with a parent advisory group who will offer guidance and oversight to the study.

Work with the research team to develop and maintain the study website.

Develop materials relevant to the study including interview schedules, information sheet and ethics application.

Communicate with NHS Trusts, people with cancer and professionals to support participant recruitment.

Collect and analyse data from qualitative interviews and focus groups with people with cancer and healthcare professionals.

Take a leading role in the analysis and writing up of the research findings.

Read and review literature as appropriate.

Assist in the writing of research reports and scholarly publications.

This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for a period of 4 years due to the post being externally funded. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts taking into consideration the ongoing source of the external funding and the requirement for the post to be maintained.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

1. Registered Nurse (Valid with NMC)
2. Masters Degree or equivalent
3. To have completed the national practice assessor training or equivalent teaching and assessing qualification for those with ENB998

Desirable criteria

4. Post registration study and qualification, e.g. oncology, leadership, research methods, symptom management & Palliative Care
5. Advanced Communication skills course or equivalent
6. Advanced assessment skills

Further Training

Essential criteria

7. Core and relevant SACT competences.

Desirable criteria

8. UKONS AO Passport Level 1.

Experience

Essential criteria

9. Demonstrate post registration experience of caring for patients cancer and those receiving cancer treatments
10. Demonstrates a genuine interest and has awareness in the speciality
11. Experience of audit and/or clinical research, with possession of ICH GCP certification
12. Knowledge of the NMC code of professional conduct and awareness of current nursing and NHS issues.
13. Evidence of the application of leadership or management skills in a busy hospital environment.
14. Relevant experience of cancer care in the acute/immunotherapy setting.
15. Experience of providing telephone advice and/or triage services.
