Job Purpose
Joining a dynamic and fast-paced retail group with over 40 years of experience in the toy industry, you will play a pivotal role within the finance function. Reporting to the Financial Controller, you will be responsible for overseeing the preparation and consolidation of group financial reports, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and supporting strategic financial planning. You will play a key role in driving process improvements, project delivery, and supporting the business in achieving its commercial and compliance objectives.
The Group Accountant role requires a confident, forward-thinking finance professional with proven leadership capabilities and a hands‑on approach. You will take pride in delivering accurate and insightful financial reporting and analysis, while proactively driving improvements across group wide processes. With a sharp eye for detail and a proactive mindset, you will play a critical role in ensuring the Group meets all compliance, reporting, and strategic objectives in a fast paced and ambitious retail environment.
Skills & Experience
1. Advanced skills in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Teams
2. Technical knowledge of FRS102 and IFRS16
3. Comprehensive understanding of project management.
4. Experience working with group consolidations, accounts preparation and audit in practice.
5. Strong technical working knowledge of IFRS16.
6. Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with non-finance stakeholders and ability to communicate financial information clearly to senior leadership.
7. Minimum 2 years’ experience within audit.
8. Minimum 5 years’ experience working with business stakeholders and external parties.
Responsibilities
* Prepare and consolidate monthly group management accounts, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and timely delivery to external parties.
* Maintain and reconcile intercompany balances, ensuring correct processing of elimination entries during consolidation.
* Take full ownership of IFRS 16 accounting and reporting.
* Lead the preparation of statutory accounts for all group entities under FRS 102, including documentation of accounting treatments, and support the annual audit process.
* Own the consolidation, balance sheet and cash flow for the group's budget, forecasting and long‑term planning.
* Provide insightful financial analysis and commentary on group performance to senior leadership.
* Prepare and submit VAT returns for all entities and act as the main point of contact for VAT‑related queries.
* Manage accounting and tax policy across the group, ensuring the group remains tax‑efficient and all available benefits are fully realised.
