We are looking for a general manager to join the Women's and Children's Division at UHBW for a one year fixed term contract.

This role holds management responsibility for the Paediatric Surgical Services within Women’s and Children’s Division. The post-holder will work closely with the Clinical Chair, Divisional Director/Deputy Directors, Clinical Directors, Head of Nursing and Senior Nurse/Matrons to ensure the delivery of high-quality clinical services and the achievement of strategic/operational objectives, service improvement and performance targets.

As a member of the Children’s Leadership Team, the post holder will contribute to the overall management and development of key children’s services. There is a strong strategic element to the role, with leadership of annual business planning for the CYP Gender Service and other paediatric medical specialties within the portfolio, and frequent interactions with commissioners and external agencies.

Operational management is also an important part of the role in this group of clinical and supporting specialties. The post holder will participate in the weekly duty manager rota for the Children’s Hospital, including the management of emergency and elective bed capacity and staffing, as well as taking part in the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children’s out of hours On Call Manager rota.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the job include providing leadership and direction to the services within the portfolio, ensuring policies and procedures are developed and implemented to deliver clinical standards safely and effectively, and ensuring performance targets are achieved within the allocated financial resources. The General Manager works closely with the Clinical Directors/Clinical Leads to ensure the service objectives are achieved.

The post-holder will represent services at regional, national and partnership forums, ensuring services are routinely benchmarked with the network. Another key duty will be developing plans that ensure services are delivered in line with the Trust and Divisional Strategy.
