The opportunity:
Close Control and Reporting (CCR) are situated within Markel International’s Accounting and Finance department. This position is responsible for the recording, reconciling, analysing and reporting of financial information for the various MINT entities.
This position works closely with accounting and finance (A&F) management while also gaining additional independence and responsibilities as a senior-level associate. Finance and accounting sit at the heart of Markel and have a strong impact on our business, we are looking for a new team member to become an integral part of what we do.
What you’ll be doing:
1. Support day-to-day Cash Management activities, including bank reconciliations and cash activity analysis.
2. Develop specific International Cash Management knowledge and support Close, Control and Reporting (CCR) team with routine and ad-hoc queries and analysis.
3. Responsibility for month and quarter end tasks, ensuring execution of tasks is in line with agreed timetables and control framework and support for Cash Flow Reporting.
4. Develop key person support knowledge across a broad range of CCR tasks, with a view to providing close task cover in business critical areas of the team.
5. Assess opportunities, to optimise existing tasks and processes through the use of automation, and provide leadership for those initiatives which involve or impact International Cash Management
6. Support external audit queries and act as key point of contact throughout the audit engagement.
7. Ensure all key process controls and appropriate governance documentation is in place and kept up to date.
Our must-haves:
8. Have experience in the Financial Services industry, preferably in the Insurance Market.
9. Support an environment of automation and IT based solutions.
10. A high level of proficiency in Microsoft Office products and ideally a good working knowledge and relevant experience with a general ledger system (e.g. Oracle, Workday, Sage).
11. Effectively communicate and liaise with local and global support partners.
12. Partner in developing strategic planning to achieve team and Company ambitions
13. Be able to adapt and pivot work responsibilities, based on task prioritisation.
