Role: Sustainability Consultant / Environmental Engineer Location: Bristol Duration: 12 months Role Type: Hybrid Salary: Around 60 an hour, depending on experience Overview: Our globally renowned aerospace client is seeking an Environmental Engineer / Sustainability Consultant to join their System Safety and Environmental Engineering team, supporting the integration of environmental management and sustainability considerations across Boeing programmes and products. The role focuses on ensuring compliance with environmental legislation, standards and company policy, while identifying and mitigating environmental risks throughout the product lifecycle. Key Responsibilities: Support the development and delivery of environmental management strategies across defence programmes. Producing environmental documentation such as management plans, standards registers, environmental case reports and hazardous materials reports. Monitoring environmental objectives and targets, contributing to sustainability initiatives, and ensuring environmental considerations are embedded within design, development, use and disposal phases. Collaboration with internal teams, customers and suppliers to ensure compliance with environmental requirements. Support environmental audits, reviewing supplier deliverables, addressing audit findings and implementing corrective actions where necessary. Contribute to the development of environmental design practices and provide support to system safety engineering activities. Essential Skills & Qualifications: Degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Computer Science or a related discipline. Membership of, or working towards membership of, a recognised environmental professional body such as the Institute of Sustainability and Environmental Professionals. Experience of environmental engineering or environmental management, ideally within aviation, defence or other regulated industries. Knowledge of environmental legislation and standards, for example, ISO 14001 Environmental Management Standard, UK REACH Regulation, Defence Standard 00-051 Strong communication skills with the ability to present technical information clearly. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications. Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams. Desirable Experience: Experience applying environmental assessment methods including identification of environmental aspects, impacts and risk analysis. Experience supporting or conducting environmental audits. Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects while delivering high-quality outcomes.
