The GSMA’s Connected Society Programme works with the mobile industry and key stakeholders to increase access to and adoption of the mobile internet, focusing on underserved population groups in developing markets. For more information, please visit the GSMA Connected Society website at: www.gsma.com/connectedsociety

GSMA Connected Women works with mobile operators and their partners to address the barriers to women accessing and using mobile internet and mobile money services. For more information, please visit the GSMA Connected Women website at: www.gsma.com/connectedwomen.

About the Role

The Insights Analyst will take a data-driven approach to answering questions and sharing insights about digital and financial inclusion in low- and middle-income countries. The role sits across both the Connected Women and Connected Society teams. Responsibilities will include:

* Report into the Insights Manager, supporting them where needed with their work including contributing to the set-up and analysis of GSMA’s Consumer Survey
* Sharing findings from analysis and research in a way that is compelling and easy to understand for a range of stakeholders through in person or virtual presentations, reports and blogs
* Providing advisory support to mobile operators in low- and middle-income countries to assist their efforts to reach the underserved
* Identifying, vetting and mining publicly available sources of data and intelligence on digital and financial inclusion in low- and middle-income markets to support the team with data and insights e.g. GSMA Intelligence data, Gallup, After Access, Facebook Audience Insights, Pew and Findex
* Working closely with the wider Connected Women, Connected Society and M4D team, including responding to ad-hoc requests for data and analysis
* Involvement in a range of insights projects with diverse methodologies (including qualitative, quantitative research, and data analysis) when required
* Working effectively across the GSMA, including working closely with the Mobile Money team on projects that cut across programmes

About You

You will have a strong analytical and quantitative skillset and be enthusiastic about applying these skills in an international development role. Prior experience in international development, telecoms or consulting is valuable, but not essential.

We welcome applications from individuals with the following demonstrated qualifications and skills:

* Excellent quantitative analytical skills, including the ability to generate frameworks and structured analysis from abstract requests
* Strong excel skills are essential
* Knowledge of statistics or econometrics, and experience using SPSS, Stata or similar statistical software, or a demonstrated ability to quickly and independently learn new analytical tools, is essential for the role
* Excellent communicator, able to express complex or commercial issues in plain language, without losing the important points. Fluent and compelling written and oral communications skills, particularly in English. Other language skills (especially French) are desirable, but not essential
* Experience working with extremely large datasets
* Either existing competency in big data analysis tools such as Python or R, or a demonstrated ability to quickly and independently learn new programming languages and analytical tools is desirable
* Demonstrated interest in or familiarity with the mobile for development sector and/or working in emerging markets (especially for mobile operators) is also desirable
* A self-starter, highly motivated to develop initiatives and drive them through to completion, who is able to work independently with an entrepreneurial, creative, can-do orientation
* Conscientious, with high personal standards and attention to detail
* A team player, happy to work in a matrixed environment or large multi-disciplinary groups, to support and input into their work
* Excellent cultural awareness and a desire to work with teams around the world
* Willingness to travel internationally, including to emerging markets
* Experience of/genuine interest in both the commercial and social benefits that are presented by reducing gaps in mobile access and use
