The role holder will lead a small team in the Doctoral College to manage the University’s Training Grants and PGR funding and scholarships across all academic departments and central activities.
The team is responsible for the management and distribution of a significant amount of funding (internal and external) supporting postgraduate study and research in an increasingly complex and challenging funding environment.
The role includes responsibility for preparation of the 5 year plan for the (significant) training grant and central PG scholarships budget; and managing the month/quarter end accounting process for training grants and PGR budgets within central scholarship budget.
The role is also responsible for providing management information and financial data and reports to internal and external bodies, and assuring compliance with training grant terms and conditions as well as university financial regulations.
About You
We are looking to recruit an experienced and pro-active management accountant who holds a CCAB accountancy qualification.
You will have experience of working within a complex finance environment and possess knowledge of accounting standards, and awareness of the HE sector and research training grants in particular, would be advantageous.
You will also have substantial experience of project and management accounting.
You will be a self-starter with strong leadership and team management skills.
The ideal candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience of managing large and complex budgets.
You should be confident in presenting complex financial information clearly to a variety of audiences and able to build effective working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels.
