Reporting to the Deputy Chief Nursing Officer – Women’s Services and Women’s Services Manager, you will play a key role in providing operational and clinical leadership as a Consultant Midwife.
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced midwife to join our team at The Portland Hospital as a Consultant Midwife. The role will provide strong clinical leadership with advanced clinical expertise in all aspects of service delivery across the maternity service working closely with the multi-disciplinary team. They will provide advanced clinical skills and advice demonstrating a sound understanding of the issues related to the identification, assessment, diagnosis, treatment and management of women in all situations. They will monitor and lead improvements to standards of care through, evidence- based practice, teaching and supporting professional colleagues and the provision of skilled professional leadership.
The Consultant Midwife is the named Safeguarding Midwife for the maternity service and will also provide expert advice in regards to perinatal mental health, liaising with relevant agencies to ensure effective management of care.
As a visible senior midwifery and nursing presence in the department they will be accessible to staff, patients and their families for advice, assistance and support. They are an expert practitioner liaising, guiding and advising the Multidisciplinary Team and external agencies on the provision of exceptional care.
Skills and Experience
1. NMC registered Midwife
2. Extensive experience working in Midwifery minimum 5 years and experience managing staff
3. To provide support to the Deputy Chief Nurse – Women's Services and Women’s Services Manager, leadership to the clinical teams (nursing, midwifery and HCA’s) and act to as a role model
4. To actively contribute to clinical governance and maintain standards of Patient Safety, Patient Experience and Clinical Effectiveness across all departments
5. Provide specialist advice on the provision of midwifery led practice to the Women’s Division leadership team as and when required or requested.
6. Monitor and ensure standards of midwifery care and clinical practice are maintained in accordance with HCA policies and procedures, and through the essence of care benchmarking. ·
7. To be the named Safeguarding Midwife for the Portland Hospital providing expertise and support as require
8. To facilitate, support and deliver training as appropriate to staff within the service
9. To facilitate team awareness and monitor compliance pertaining to, regulations and standards appropriate for the department, in regard to CQC compliance
10. To ensure that all patient care is documented, all the relevant documentation is completed accurately within agreed timescales using approved HCA International documentation, in line with NMC, CQC and local standards
11. To order tests and clinical investigations as directed using HCA International IT systems and access results as appropriate ensuring that the correct results are documented
12. To meet PREP requirements and identify own learning needs ensuring own professional development is maintained by keeping up to date with practice developments and undertake further academic qualifications as relevant to the role and service requirements
