Nottingham City Council is seeking an experienced and resilient Social Worker to join our Emergency Duty Team (EDT). This vital out-of-hours service provides urgent social work support to vulnerable children, young people, and adults during evenings, weekends, and bank holidays. You will be the first point of contact for emergency referrals, conducting complex assessments and making critical decisions to safeguard individuals in crisis. The role demands autonomy, sound judgement under pressure, and a commitment to multi‑agency collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
 * Respond to emergency referrals involving children, families, and vulnerable adults
 * Undertake urgent risk assessments and implement protective measures
 * Collaborate with police, health services, and other partners
 * Provide professional advice to colleagues and the public
 * Maintain accurate records in line with statutory requirements
 * Participate in the EDT rota, including unsociable hours
Essential Requirements
 * Recognised Social Work qualification (e.g. BA Social Work, DipSW, CQSW)
 * Significant post‑qualifying experience in frontline social work
 * Strong assessment and decision‑making skills
 * Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
 * Ability to work independently and within a small team
 * Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
 * Enhanced DBS check
Preferred Qualifications
 * Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) status – desirable but not essential
 * Experience in out‑of‑hours or EDT settings
Compensation
£38 per hour.
