We are looking for a Masters degree qualified Chartered Mechanical Engineer to join our Estates team to help develop our expanding campus. Estates Services manages an exciting and diverse range of capital and revenue developments, with a current programme of around £50m. Your role will be key to defining and implementing changes to improve the safety, reliability and functionality of our properties and other assets, ensuring safety is maintained at all times whilst providing effective and value-added systems of work. The role will deliver a large and varied range of works across the capital and revenue portfolio. Take the technical lead using refined skills and knowledge to interpret and implement solutions to technical issues or opportunities for improvement. Collaborating with senior management, University stakeholders and external service providers to advise on appropriate engineering options to meet required objectives. To provide technical vision and expertise and a specialist advisory service to in-house staff, departments and external contractors carrying out works on campus in normal, abnormal and emergency situations. Responding to major system failure and requests for support by technical staff out of hours. Diagnose faults, maintenance and repair of equipment and systems of a specialist engineering nature. To advise on best practice in the management of the University's assets to ensure safety is maintained at all times whilst providing effective and value-added safe systems of work. Advising and implementing opportunities for continuous improvement. Project manage from inception through to the end of defects liability a variety of large and complex engineering projects. Leading multi-disciplined project teams and liaising with in-house staff and external consultants. Act as main budget holder. Developing budget requirements in order to programme works, and address the need for ongoing and long term maintenance operations. Diagnose faults, maintenance and repair of equipment and systems of a specialist engineering nature. To apply experience and up to date knowledge for the tendering, procurement, management and purchasing of complex engineering equipment and associated service contracts, and their integration into the planning schedules. Implement strategies dictated by changes in legislation. Department This role is based in the Directorate of Technology, Estates & Facilities (DTEF). Our department provides services and facilities to staff, students and visitors. Within the DTEF, the Estates Development Team is responsible for the ownership and development of the campus, as well as supporting the wider DTEF team. Role The Senior Technical Engineer Mechanical role provides strategic vision and technical expertise across the specified discipline. Role provides an advisory service to in-house staff and departments in normal, abnormal and emergency situations. With up to date knowledge the role will advise and deliver on best practice in maintaining and improving the University’s assets, ensuring safety is maintained at all times whilst providing effective and value-added systems of work. The role will deliver a large and varied range of works across the capital and revenue portfolio. Skills, Experience & Qualification needed Masters Degree in a relevant discipline, or suitable extensive practical experience. Chartered Membership of a relevant professional body Minimum 3 years experience in an estates/ facilities role. Experience of managing multi-discipline engineering experience in addition to your own field of expertise.
