English Tutor Wanted – Make Words Matter Are you passionate about the power of language? Do you believe that every young person, no matter their background or circumstances, deserves the chance to discover their voice? We’re seeking a dedicated, empathetic, and flexible English tutor to work with pupils in Alternative Provisions (APs) – settings that support students who are unable to attend mainstream education. These pupils may have experienced exclusion, trauma, or disruption in their education – but with the right support, they can thrive. That’s where you come in. What you’ll do: Deliver 1:1 English tuition, tailored to each student’s needs and learning style. Build trusting, consistent relationships with learners who may have lost confidence in education. Foster literacy, communication skills, and a love of reading and writing. Support pupils working towards GCSEs, functional skills, or reintegration into mainstream settings. What we’re looking for: A strong background in English language and/or literature (teaching qualification preferred). Experience working with children or young people, particularly those with SEMH needs, SEND, or challenging behaviour. Excellent communication, patience, and the ability to think creatively in your teaching approach. Reliability, adaptability, and a non-judgmental attitude. Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one). What we offer: Flexible, meaningful work that fits around other commitments. Opportunities to make a genuine impact – often in ways that go far beyond the classroom. Supportive team and safeguarding structure. Competitive hourly rate. This role isn’t just about teaching English — it’s about helping young people reconnect with learning, rediscover their self-worth, and find their place in the world. Ready to be that person?
