We are looking for an experienced BMS with at least 5 years experience as a proficient BMS to work days and nights on a fixed term contract covering maternity leave in Haematology and Blood Transfusion.
The Ealing Pathology Laboratory is a rapidly expanding laboratory working 24/7 with a close knit team, providing pathology services to Ealing Hospital and fourteen other private Hospitals.
It is essential for the successful candidate to have suitable experience in a laboratory; this role is not available to BMS who are not registered with HCPC.
The role offers opportunity to develop additional quality control/assurance skills and responsibilities, health and safety practices. Being part of the TDL regional labs group, staff are supported by and contribute to the other TDL regional labs functions in sharing input into troubleshooting, training, peer auditing, presenting training sessions and supporting company projects.

Main duties of the job
As a qualified Biomedical Scientist, the post holder is responsible for the delegated tasks required for the delivery of a fit‑for‑purpose medical laboratory service. The responsibilities of this role include working in Haematology, which includes running of full blood counts, coagulation screen tests and performing blood film morphology and carrying out a range of manual tests e.g. Malaria screening, sickle testing etc. the role also entails the running of the Blood Transfusion department which includes the running group and screens and panel screening tests and ensuring that safe and compatible blood is issued to our patients by a various number of crossmatching methods.

Job responsibilities
Main Duties:
To include, but not be restricted to, the following duties:
* Participate in all areas of laboratory bench work, whilst adhering to standard operating procedures and participating in their regular review and update.
* Multidisciplinary working as required
* Communicate patients results and answer enquiries from health care professionals providing information regarding appropriate investigations required and explanation of results, within departmental guidelines and professional code of conduct.
* Interpret clinical information and use scientific knowledge to process specimens for appropriate tests, seeking advice from senior staff and clinicians when necessary.
* Undertake specimen preparation and analysis for a range of sample types.
* Operate and maintain analytical equipment in the department.
* Evaluate and monitor the accuracy and precision of laboratory investigations using appropriate quality control procedures.
* Interpret complex scientific data and enter test results on pathology computer system.
* Check reports for further action by clinical staff.
* Authorise reports as delegated within departmental policy.
* Replace stocks of consumables and reagents when required and inform the Section Leader if back‑up stocks are low.
* To assist when required in the preparation of documentation for UKAS (ISO) accreditation.
* Able to solve complex problems within work area, but advise both clinicians and senior staff of any clinical and managerial issues
Person Specification
Experience
* Theoretical and practical knowledge in discipline of pathology relevant to role.
* Previous experience in a relevant laboratory, and proficiency in techniques appropriate to the discipline
Qualifications
* Registration with HCPC as Biomedical Scientist
* IBMS Accredited BSc (hons) Biomedical Science or equivalent
* Participation in a relevant CPD Scheme e.g. IBMS
