Consultant Older Adult Psychiatrist in Acute Inpatient and Liaison

We are seeking to appoint a Consultant Psychiatrist to provide senior medical input to the Adult Mental Health Inpatient and Liaison Services based in Scunthorpe, covering North Lincolnshire. The Trust offers comprehensive adult, child, older adult, learning disability and community forensic mental health services to Rotherham, Doncaster and North Lincolnshire, along with Community Physical Health and Substance Misuse Services in Doncaster.

Applicants must be on the GMC Specialist Register for Older Adult Psychiatry or be a trainee within 6 months of completing their CCT, and be approved or eligible for approval for Section 12(2) and Approved Clinician status. Good communication skills and a commitment to multi‑disciplinary and multi‑agency working are essential.


Main duties of the job

The postholder will be a member of multidisciplinary teams, providing consultant clinical input, face‑to‑face patient assessment for complex acute hospital liaison, care home liaison and CRHT cases for older adults, and acting as the Senior Medical Lead for Laurel Ward. You will provide timely, tailored clinical care, support and advice to team members, and respond flexibly to patient needs. The position is full‑time (10 PA) with on‑call duties and will be based at Great Oaks, Scunthorpe.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Full registration with the GMC
* Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register for Older Adult/Dual Psychiatry or trainee within six months of completing CCT
* MRC Psych or equivalent higher qualification
* Higher Specialist Training in Adult Psychiatry (e.g. SpR scheme) or Dual Training
* MD, Management qualification or other professional qualification (eg: CBT, PSI, CAT)


Experience

* Previous experience within Older Adult Psychiatry
* Experience of psychiatric practice in a range of settings
* Experience of audit and understanding of principles of clinical governance
* Prior experience working as a Consultant in Older Adult Psychiatry
* Proven commitment to improving the quality of clinical care
* Evidence of development of special interest
* Other special interest/expertise relevant to the post


Skills

* All applicants to have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics. This can be demonstrated by undergraduate medical training in English or by achieving an overall IELTS score of 7.5 with Speaking, Reading, Writing and Listening each 7.5 within 24 months of application.
* Clinical supervision experience/skills. Aptitude and potential to develop a leadership role within the service, with a special emphasis on leading quality and clinical standards and engaging in service improvement.
* Ability to undertake training, mentoring of medical staff in junior grades and enthusiasm for education.
* Qualification in Medical Education.
