We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and highly motivated Teacher of Geography to join a successful and supportive team in a well-established department. This post provides an excellent opportunity for an ECT to develop their career who will be required to teach Geography across KS3 and KS4, and all ability ranges. We have a range of departmental initiatives which provide opportunities for the right candidate to cultivate their creative capabilities.

Purpose of the post:
1. To be part of the team of teachers in the Geography Department.
2. To teach Geography throughout the school in KS3 and KS4.
3. To develop innovative, traditional and non-traditional approaches to the Geography curriculum in order to ensure appropriate access and achievement for all students.
4. To teach using a variety of delivery methods which will stimulate learning, meeting the demands of the curriculum and the needs of the students.
5. To assist in the development and deployment of resources as appropriate.
6. To plan and prepare courses and lessons.
7. To assess, record and report on the attainment, attendance and progress of students keeping such records as required.
8. To monitor and record student progress according to the school ’s assessment policy.
9. To set, mark and record homework according to the homework timetable.
10. To provide pastoral support to students with special educational needs.
11. To maintain discipline in accordance with the school’s procedures and encourage good practice with regard to punctuality, behaviour and standards of work.
12. To assess students’ work in line with school policies and procedures referring to student performance targets.
13. To run intervention or extra-curricular sessions if required.
14. To teach some lessons in our primary school within the MAT if required.
Experience:
15. To understand the requirements of the National Curriculum for Geography
16. To have teaching experience in a culturally diverse secondary school
17. To have experience of working with mixed ability students
Qualifications and Training:
18. To have a Degree
19. To hold a QTS (PGCE or equivalent)
Knowledge and Skills:
20. To be able to lead, manage, challenge and support staff and students to achieve high standards
21. The ability to achieve challenging professional targets / objectives
22. To be aware of the requirements of the National Curriculum
23. To be aware of the demands of GCSE Geography
24. To have excellent communication skills (both oral and in writing) – the ability to make points clearly and confidently, providing information and advice in accurate spoken English, and able to understand the views of others
25. To be a good administrator and organiser
