With increasing demand for targeted behavioural support, the school is seeking a skilled Behaviour Mentor to join its pastoral and SEND team, supporting pupils in Nursery, Reception, and Key Stage 1.
Role Purpose
The Behaviour Mentor will work with pupils experiencing difficulties with behaviour, emotional regulation, and social interaction. You will provide consistent support in classrooms, small group sessions, and unstructured periods, helping pupils develop resilience, confidence, and positive social behaviours.
You will work closely with teachers, EYFS staff, SENCO, and parents to ensure consistent strategies are applied across the school.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide 1:1 behavioural and emotional support to pupils
* Lead small group interventions targeting social skills, emotional literacy, and self-regulation
* Support children in Nursery, Reception, and Key Stage 1 classrooms
* Assist pupils with transitions, routines, and coping strategies for daily activities
* Support behaviour management during playtimes, lunchtimes, and other unstructured periods
* Implement and monitor behaviour support plans
* Employ restorative, play-based, and trauma-informed approaches
* Model positive behaviour and emotional regulation
* Observe, assess, and record pupil progress and behavioural outcomes
* Contribute to planning, review meetings, and multi-agency support discussions
* Build strong professional relationships with parents, carers, and external agencies
* Work collaboratively with teachers, EYFS staff, SENCO, and pastoral teams
* Uphold safeguarding and child protection policies
* Promote a culture of inclusion, empathy, and mutual respect
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be patient, compassionate, and emotionally resilient. You will understand that challenging behaviour is a form of communication and respond consistently and empathetically.
You should demonstrate:
* Experience in Primary, Nursery, or EYFS settings
* Knowledge of SEND, SEMH, ADHD, ASD, and attachment-informed approaches
* Confidence implementing behaviour interventions and monitoring outcomes
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills
* Reflective practice and proactive problem-solving
* Flexibility and adaptability to meet the needs of pupils and staff
Relevant qualifications in childcare, education, psychology, or youth work are desirable.
