As a Maintenance Operative, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety, functionality, and overall condition of our buildings, land and facilities. You will carry out a wide range of routine repairs, general maintenance tasks, and minor improvement works across the site, supporting the smooth and efficient operation of our organisation.
Your work will help maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for staff, young people, and visitors., as well as ensuring the estate complies with all relevant legislative and regulatory requirements. This hands-on role requires a flexible, proactive approach and the ability to respond to maintenance issues in a timely and professional manner.
Typical duties may include basic plumbing, painting and decorating, carpentry, minor electrical repairs, grounds maintenance, garden maintenance, and regular compliance checks such as fire alarm testing or health and safety inspections. You will also be responsible for liaising with external contractors when needed and supporting planned maintenance or refurbishment projects.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone with practical maintenance experience, good problem-solving skills, and a commitment to high standards of workmanship and customer service.
About you
Ideally you will have experience of working in a maintenance role in similar organisation such as a school or college. You will be organised and able to manage your time effectively. You will be competent in DIY skills and have the ability to work in a safe manner. You will have a friendly, approachable manner with the ability to prioritise workload.
Working Pattern
The Estates team cover from 7.30am until 6.30pm Monday to Friday with an out of hours on-call rota. This is a full-time position working 37 hours per week, with start and finish times varying depending on rota pattern.
