An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Health Care Assistant to join our Cardio Respiratory Team on a Permanent Basis.


Role Overview

The post-holder will carry out assigned tasks involving direct care in support of and supervised by a Registered Nurse on the recovery ward and catheter lab in the Cardiac Diagnostic Centre. The post-holder will provide patient‑centred care, support staff in clinical procedures, protocols and guidelines to ensure effective delivery of service to patients in the pre‑ and post‑procedure phase and work as part of the MDT team.


Key Responsibilities

* Support staff in clinical procedures, protocols and guidelines to ensure effective delivery of service to patients in the pre‑ and post‑procedure phase.
* Work as part of the MDT team undertaking support tasks and direct care tasks as delegated by the Nurse in Charge.
* Support qualified Nursing Staff in maintaining high standards of nursing care to patients.
* Assist in creating a positive patient experience in the CDC before, during and after procedures.
* Accept responsibility for delegated functions within the CDC as appropriate.
* Take and record temperatures, pulses, blood pressures, respirations, oxygen saturation readings and blood glucose.
* Assist in the general cleanliness and tidiness of the ward area including kitchen sluice and storerooms.
* Safely dispose of clinical waste and sharps as per Trust policy.
* Assist in the documentation of patients’ records, both written and electronic, ensuring entries are correct, legible and comprehensive.
* Follow appropriate training and use equipment within the department under the direction of nurse in charge.
* Answer telephone calls correctly, take messages or refer to nurse in charge.
* Assist with unpacking and checking of stores as required.
* Undertake cleaning and correct storage of equipment.

* Ensure patient property is managed per Trust policy and monitor supply levels, ordering supplies when appropriate.
* Demonstrate own duties to new starters and contribute to the learning environment.
* Work in line with Trust policies and procedures and maintain a safe, healthy working environment.
* Act in the best interest of individuals to prevent harm.
* Work in partnership with patients, carers/families and the wider health‑care team.
* Maintain and develop skills and knowledge through learning activities and participation in appraisal.
* Participate in team handovers.
