Job Description


The salary for this role is £56,596 (inclusive of a Specialist Allowance). Onsite working is expected for 5 days each week, however, we actively support requests for flexible working.

This role is based at the following site: Culham, Oxfordshire.

This role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), including The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions and possibly a search of open source data.

The Role

Join Our Electronics Workshop Team!
The Electronics Workshop Team supports UKAEA projects by building, testing, and repairing electronic assemblies and control systems. We work with a wide range of electrical and electronic technologies, helping to keep equipment across the Culham site running smoothly.

We’re looking for an Electronics Workshop Team Leader to manage our people and facilities. In this role, you’ll plan and coordinate workshop activities, assign work to technicians, and make sure projects are completed on time and within budget. You’ll also work closely with customers, advising on the best ways to build or repair equipment and ensuring every job is delivered to a high standard.

If you’re motivated to lead and manage the Electronics Workshop Team, using your technical skills and experience to coordinate tasks from multiple customers, assign resources effectively, and keep projects on track, then we’d love to hear from you. You’ll play a key role in reviewing new and ongoing requests, advising customers on the best strategies for manufacturing or repairing equipment within the available time, budget, and resources.

Key Accountabilities:

* Deliver workshop projects on time and within budget, keeping stakeholders updated on progress.
* Promote the workshop’s services and resources and contribute to planning its future direction.
* Manage purchasing of parts and equipment, maintaining supplier relationships and negotiating where needed.
* Match staff skills to projects, support training and development, and oversee safe, high-quality work in the lab.
* Prepare and maintain essential documentation including safety procedures, risk assessments, and project reports, ensuring compliance with UKAEA standards and best industry practices.

Qualifications


Essential:

* An honours degree in Electronic/Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline, and relevant professional experience in an electronic engineering role. Or an HND in an Electronics/Electrical discipline, or equivalent qualification level, with a greater breadth and depth of experience/knowledge.
* Experience in building, fault finding, carrying out repairs and procurement of electronic components, systems, and sub-assemblies.
* Good knowledge of safe working practices and procedures, with experience of preparing safety documentation (i.e. risk assessments, method statements, permits, etc).
* Able to manage own time and workload to deliver against agreed targets
* Good inter-personal and communication skills, and ability to interact with various stakeholders.

Desirable:

* Line management experience
* Experience of managing and maintaining a workshop facility.
* Demonstrated success in working with a multi-disciplinary team in a dynamic research environment.
* Experience in using CAD software for Electronics circuits and PCB design.
