Offer description

Role Responsibility

We are looking for a self-motivated and committed Social Work Assistant to join the East Kent Children in Care Service, working primarily with our Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children.

The role will be based at Brook House and will be primarily (but not solely) to support Adolescent Children in Care, including Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children. The focus of the work is to support the statutory role of the social worker. This includes direct work with vulnerable children, young people and their families or carers and assisting Social Workers in any other identified tasks.

The right candidate will have good communication, especially with children and young people whose first language isn’t English, IT skills and an understanding of the needs of children, young people and their families.

Providing support is essential to our service users so the ability to produce good reports and case notes, collate information and liaise with social workers and other professionals to inform the complex court work is another key element of the role. You will need to be able to demonstrate that you can develop good working relationships with families, carers and other professionals.

You should note that public transport is not a viable option as some rural areas of Kent often have limited public transport. You may also be required to transport or accompany young people to appointments inside and outside of the County.

This post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure Application to the Disclosure and Barring Service.

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.

Work that works for you and us - let's talk flexibility!

KCC is committed to building a workforce which reflects the diversity of the county's working residents, encouraging applications from people of all ages, abilities, genders, sexual orientations, ethnic backgrounds, faiths and those with caring responsibilities, and aspires to create an inclusive workplace where everyone can be themselves at work.

Please note - if you are interested, please apply soon as possible as the closing date for this advert may be earlier than stated should a number of suitably qualified candidates apply.
