The role
We are recruiting on behalf of our client for an Automotive Welder / Fabricator in Croydon. This is a full-time, permanent position in a precision-focused workshop, specialising in classic car restoration and bespoke customer builds. Benefits: Salary of £35,000–£40,000 for 40 hours per week (flexible start and finish times) Permanent workshop position with career stability Opportunity to work on classic restoration and customer-specific builds Use of MIG, TIG and stick welding, supported by a quality and safety-first working cultureDuties of a Automotive Welder / Fabricator : Perform MIG, TIG and stick welding on thin, rusty sheet metal, producing clean, accurate welds without burn-through Assess vehicle rust damage and determine the best repair approach prior to commencing work as an Automotive Welder / Fabricator Remove corroded sections using suitable methods, including grinding, sanding, blasting, or chemical treatment where required Fabricate and fit sheet metal sections, including patching and panel replacement to restore original contours Use plasma cutting to prepare repair areas and remove damaged metal efficiently Complete body filler work to achieve a high-quality finish after structural repairs Apply corrosion prevention measures, including priming and protective coatings Carry out structural repairs with sound judgement, maintaining strict workshop safety practices as an Automotive Welder / Fabricator Requirements of a Automotive Welder / Fabricator : Proven experience in a Welder / Fabricator role within automotive restoration or related metal fabrication Ability to weld thin sheet metal effectively, including in challenging conditions with rusty and weakened areas Knowledge of rust assessment and repair preparation methods (grinding, sanding, blasting, chemical treatment) Competent in sheet metal fabrication, patching, panel replacement and plasma cutting Experience applying corrosion prevention methods, including priming and protective coatings Ability to follow safety procedures and work to a high accuracy standard on classic vehiclesContact Liam Buffenbarger, Automotive Recruitment Specialist at Perfect Placement covering Croydon and Surrey, today to discover more about this fantastic Automotive Welder / Fabricator opportunity.
