Lead Engineer – EC&I
As a LEAD Engineer, you will be directly involved in our most exciting projects, where you will provide technical leadership and support to the EC&I technical discipline community across a wide range of our client portfolio projects and framework agreements. Assystem operates in Nuclear Decommissioning, Defence, New Build, and Infrastructure. Customers include Sellafield, Rolls-Royce, EDF, BAE, F4E, Hinkley Point.
️ Role Responsibilities
Technically responsible for EC&I engineering output of EC&I teams delivering technical solutions for complex systems
Act as Lead Engineer on large and complex Projects, assisting in the production of Project plans and other associated Project Management activities
⚠️ Ensure that all Health and Safety requirements are appropriately prioritised and applied
Be aware of existing and emerging technologies, including those in other major disciplines
Proven understanding of responsibilities regarding BS7671, IEC 61508, Machinery Directive, and CDM Regulations
Lead technical solutions at design reviews, facilitate technical discussions, and chair formal technical reviews
️ Prepare and present technical presentations to all levels within the Business
Capable of independent and autonomous work in delivering complex engineering activities
Guide/advise on mitigating environmental impact throughout the design process
️ Possess strong delegation, motivation, communication, and teamwork skills
Actively support staff and clients with technical issues and customer design reviews
Provide a professional and logical work approach, especially to junior team members
Monitor team performance, providing individual feedback and encouragement
Select project team members to meet project requirements
Direct and supervise team members and technical teams
Monitor and resolve performance issues within the team
Actively seek guidance from other Engineers and specialists to improve understanding
Responsible for the technical aspects of complex or large tenders, contributing to risk controls
Assist in managing project costs and schedules with minimal supervision
Can independently implement company security procedures
Act as the focal point for technical communications between clients and customers
️ Oversee authoring, reviewing, and approval of written and graphical content
Establish and develop technical group networks
✅ Perform technical approval of engineering outputs produced by others
Guide and support team members in the application of QMS
Identify, review, and help develop future QMS procedures, controls, and standards
Qualifications
✅ Essential Experience
Proven track record in the design of Electrical, Control & Instrumentation systems, with specialist experience in at least two areas:
• Radiometrics and Special Instruments
• Control Systems
• Electrical Supply Infrastructure
• EC&I Functional Safety Systems
• Process Instruments
• Remote Handling and Lifting Equipment
• EC&I Project Management
• Security in Design
In-depth understanding of EC&I within complex project environments
️ Experience across all project life cycle phases
Strong collaboration with project management teams, providing timely technical input
Understanding of Control System design phases, V-cycle, and version control
️ Experience with configuration management for plant and documentation
10+ years of experience influencing engineering practices and outcomes
️ 10+ years in highly regulated industries
Led process improvements for efficiency and effectiveness
Led teams delivering medium to high complexity technical solutions
Desirable Experience
☢️ Experience working with safety cases in high-hazard industries (preferably Nuclear)
⚙️ Functional Safety design and substantiation experience
Familiar with ONR License Conditions
Experience in BIM-enabled projects
Knowledge of safety system design, legislation, and techniques such as FMECA, HAZOP, HAZID
Experience in systems design, calculations, and EMC assessment
Experience in software/hardware/embedded programming for machinery and process control
Broad knowledge of instrumentation design techniques
Experience in managing equipment obsolescence
Qualifications Required
Essential:
A degree in a relevant engineering discipline (Electrical, Instrumentation, or Control Engineering) or HNC/HND with substantial professional experience
Desirable:
A degree at Honours level or higher in Electrical, Instrumentation, or Control Engineering
Additional Information
**Security clearance**
This role requires the successful candidate to hold a minimum of a Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats to that clearance.
Due to the nature of work this role will be delivering and for the protection of certain assets, the successful candidate has to be a UK national or in MoD approved cases a Dual National from a non-ITAR country.
